Chapter 403 When Power Picks a Side
Eustace suddenly started shouting, “Did you get this wrong? Why are you detaining me?!”
After that, he shot the chief a hard glare.
“Do you even know who I am?! Weren’t you supposed to detain her instead?”
He pointed at Scarlett.

He was sure the chief had messed up. The order must have been to detain Scarlett. Why would they lock him up?
Elizabeth was surprised too. More than surprised, actually, she was shocked.
She glanced at Scarlett, studying her carefully.
The chief had come in person. That meant he had orders from above.
But he wasn’t here to protect Eustace. He was here to protect Scarlett.
That made things interesting.
Could it be that Scarlett had someone powerful backing her?
It wasn’t unusual. Celebrities often used that kind of trick.
Thinking that, Elizabeth frowned in disgust.
Scarlett didn’t plan to waste any more time with them. She stood up and walked out.
Eustace shouted right away, “Why does she get to leave? Even if it was self–defense, she went too far! I need to go to the hospital for a check!”
An officer stepped in and stopped him.
Eustace kept yelling.
By then, Scarlett had already walked out of the station.
She still had plans to meet up with her friends.
Who cared about what Eustace was yelling inside?
Back at the station, Eustace was furious. He kept shouting/for Elizabeth to bring Scarlett back.
Even Elizabeth, with her usual calm manners, felt like rolling her eyes.
She didn’t want to stay there either.
“Eustace, don’t worry. I’ll contact your family. Someone will come bail you out soon. You’ll be out in no
time

Elizabeth believed that even though Scarlett had someone backing her, that person wouldn’t dare offend the Lynns too much.
Not even the government wanted trouble with the Lynns.
There were major trade ties involved.
People would think twice.
So in her mind, once help arrived, the police would let him go quickly.
But neither Elizabeth nor Eustace expected that even though the Lynns sent people, hired a lawyer, and called in their local connections, the police still didn’t release him.
Eustace was held for four or five days before he was finally let out.
That came later.
For now, Scarlett had already gone back to the karaoke lounge.
When everyone saw she was fine, they finally relaxed.
They sang, talked about world news, and shared gossip.
Even the Lynns became a topic.
That’s when Scarlett learned something new. Eustace was the son of a lover.
People said he might inherit the family, but only if all his older, legitimate brothers were gone.
So realistically, he had almost no chance.
Still, Scarlett had a feeling.
Even if Eustace never became the heir, his family might fall apart because of him.
They partied until eleven. A lot of people were getting sleepy, so they called it a night.
As Scarlett walked out of the private room, she ran into someone she knew.
The man paused, surprised. “Scarlett? What are you doing here?”
It was Simon.
Simon had once been a surprise guest on the same show Scarlett joined.
He was the heir from Bluebird Media,
Simon had once been marked with one of Hazel’s sigils.
Whenever he was around Hazel, he would almost do whatever she said.

Later, Scarlett gave him a sigil of her own, and it broke Hazel’s control. The mark on him was gone.
They still kept in touch now and then. They could say they were friends.
So when Simon saw Scarlett here, he was genuinely surprised.

For the past two months, she hadn’t shown up much in public. He had thought she was in Brookriver, busy preparing for the SAT.
He spent a lot of time in Brookriver too, but he often traveled to Jyncrest City.
The main branch of the Jenkins was based there. He had lived in Jyncrest City before, and he had plenty of friends there.
So seeing Scarlett here didn’t quite make sense to him.
Scarlett smiled. “Simon. What a coincidence.”
Simon smiled back. His signature white hair bounced as he moved.
“Just finished with your group? Want to come hang out with us? My friends are inside. Some of them are
our fans.”

The white–haired guy still looked shocked.
But it didn’t seem like it was just because he saw Scarlett. It looked like something else had caught him off guard.
