“You’re such an ungrateful child!”
Daniel’s hand shook as he pointed at her, his voice trembling with anger. “How can you even say something like that? Today, I’m going to make sure you learn your lesson!”
He spun around, searching for something to use against Nathalie.
Camilla quickly grabbed Nathalie’s arm, desperate. “Nathalie, what are you saying? I carried you for nine months. I worked so hard to raise you. How can you say something so hurtful to me?”
Nathalie gave her a cold, mocking look. “I’m the child you gave birth to, but when I was set up, when I was bullied, when I was hurting, did you ever feel any of it?”
For a second, Camilla’s face froze, then tears spilled down her cheeks. “Who ever bullied you? You’ve always been spoiled since you were little, and after Felice came, we pampered you even more. We gave you everything, always worried you might get upset. And now you say you were bullied? Nathalie, how can you just lie like this without a conscience?”
Nathalie stared at them, her expression empty.
One kept crying and blaming her, hurting her with soft words that cut deeper than knives.
The other was just furious, looking ready to tear her apart.
She closed her eyes for a moment, feeling all the fight drain from her body. “Either you beat me to death, or just end this. Call me heartless if you want. Honestly, I don’t need parents like you in my life.”
The sound of a slap rang out in the room.
Camilla’s hand shook as she smacked Nathalie’s cheek. She clung to her, shaking her shoulders and sobbing. “Nathalie, how could you say that? You really have no heart. You’re my daughter. How can you just say you want to cut ties with us? Do you want me to die?”
Nathalie barely felt the pain anymore, just a wave of exhaustion. Out there, she could fight back against anyone who hurt her. But back in this house, her strength disappeared, leaving only weariness and emptiness.
“You love Felice James so much. Isn’t what I’m suggesting exactly what you want? Why are you still unhappy?” Her voice was so confused, genuinely not understanding.
Just like always. She wasn’t wrong, so why should she have to apologize?
This time, she didn’t feel as scared of Daniel’s anger. It just wasn’t worth it anymore.
Turning on her heel, she walked away, posture tall and steady, every step full of purpose.
“You monster... get back here!” Daniel shouted, his voice cracking with rage.
He shoved Camilla aside, storming after Nathalie.
Camilla lost her balance and fell. Her head struck the edge of the cabinet. She let out a sharp cry, then touched her head, only to find blood on her hand. Everything spun and then she collapsed, unconscious.
“Camilla!” Daniel shouted in a panic. He yelled to the servants, his voice breaking. “Call an ambulance! Now!”
