Felice’s eyes grew cold. Right now, she couldn’t say anything. Not a word. Her own thoughts started to feel shaky. Was Lance really trying to pay her back, or was there more to it? Something about the whole thing just felt off.
Daniel and Camilla exchanged glances. They both knew Lance actually made sense. Five percent was a lot, maybe too much, but at this point, it wasn’t like they could refuse.
Daniel sighed and nodded. “Fine, let’s do it your way.” He turned to his secretary, asking her to revise the contract.
Nathalie watched everything play out. She looked pale, her posture, usually proud and straight, seemed to collapse a little. Three percent, five percent. She didn’t want Felice to get any of it. But in this room, she had no say. There was nothing she could do about it. The worst part was realizing who had hurt her most. She had never expected it to be him.
Taking a breath, Nathalie suddenly couldn’t stand the idea of this deal for another second. She didn’t want to stay married to Lance. She just wanted out. She stared at him with eyes full of disappointment and said quietly, “Tomorrow. I’ll see you at the civil office.”
She turned and walked away without looking back.
Out of the hospital, Nathalie called her mom.
“Hey, Nathalie, what’s happened?” Madonna picked up right away, her voice soft and worried.
Nathalie closed her eyes for a moment. “Mom, I’m not doing the deal anymore. I don’t care what he and Felice do. I can’t take another day of this. Please tell him to meet me at the civil office.”
Madonna sounded shocked. “Nathalie, just wait, talk to me. What’s going on?”
Nathalie held her phone so tightly her knuckles turned white. “I’m just done, Mom. I have never done anything wrong to him. I’ve always been good to you and Dad too. I just want a peaceful, respectable divorce. That’s not too much, right?”
Daniel’s face was set in a scowl. “That girl… Always threatening divorce. Does she really think the world will just bend to her?”
Camilla’s eyes landed on Lance. “Lance, don’t take her words to heart. Nathalie’s just stubborn, you know how she is. You’ve been together so long, you should understand her by now.”
Lance was still staring at the door, his frustration almost boiling over. His usually calm, handsome expression was clouded. “I wasn’t finished before.”
Camilla looked surprised. “There’s more? Go ahead.”
Lance turned to Daniel, his tone hardening. “If the adopted daughter gets three percent of The Blair Group, then your own daughter, Nathalie, should get some shares too. Not too much—just five percent. That way, no one will question your decision, and the board can’t cause trouble.”
