The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 118

Felice let out a sad little smile, her eyes full of heartbreak. “It’s ridiculous, isn’t it? Lance, all I did back then was save someone. If I really had some secret agenda, I wouldn’t have kept my mouth shut for more than eight years. I’m taking Jasper home now. You should get back to your work.”

She turned and walked out of the office.

Lance sat there quietly, his slender fingers wrapped around a pen as he stared ahead. His eyes were dark, impossible to read, revealing nothing about what he was thinking.

Aaron hovered nearby, sneaking a glance at Lance before asking carefully, “Lance, do you want me to keep digging into this?”

Lance didn’t hesitate. “Find out where Nathalie was during the earthquake.”

“Understood.”

Nathalie had dinner plans with Damaris. The barbecue place was packed with the smell of sizzling meat, the sound of it crackling on the grill lifting everyone’s mood.

Damaris watched her friend closely, worry written all over her face. “Nathalie, you look exhausted. Did you not sleep at all last night?”

Nathalie didn’t even try to hide the tiredness in her eyes. She let out a sigh. “How am I supposed to stop my parents from giving Felice shares in The Blair Group?”

Damaris nearly dropped her chopsticks. “Excuse me? Are your parents serious? They’re going to give the family business to their adopted daughter? I honestly don’t get it. What the hell does Felice have over them? Honestly, she’s taken things way too far!”

Nathalie gave her a tired look. “So you agree it’s messed up, right?”

“Absolutely!” Damaris smacked her palm on the table. “If my parents pulled something like that, I’d go ballistic.”

Nathalie rested her chin on her hand. “They treat Felice so differently. They’re so patient with her, always choosing her side, worrying about her, even planning to hand her the company. It’s like they’re making up for something. Do you think… my parents might have done something to Felice’s birth parents?”

She blurted it out, and for the first time, the crazy theory actually seemed to make a weird kind of sense.

Nathalie’s face turned frosty.

What was up with the security here? How could just anyone walk in off the street?

Without a second thought, she called building management to complain.

When the property manager showed up, he looked a little embarrassed. “Ms. Blair, this gentleman is… well, he’s actually the developer of this building.”

Nathalie folded her arms across her chest. “I don’t care who he is. That doesn’t mean he can just come and go as he pleases.”

The manager paused, looking unsure. Maybe Lance really did have that kind of access.

Lance finally ended his call and turned toward her, his gaze calm and steady. “I’ve been waiting for you for a while.”
