The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 117

Felice figured someone had been talking behind her back to Lance, probably trying to stir things up and warn her off. It never even crossed her mind that it could have been Nathalie tattling. That social media post had been set for Nathalie's eyes only, after all. So, on the outside, she managed to keep it together.

Lance watched her with those dark eyes of his, completely unreadable, his voice quiet and cold. “You really love Jackson?”

Felice didn’t even hesitate. “Yes. I love only Jackson. If I didn’t love him, I never would have had Jasper.”

Lance was quiet for a moment, then finally said, “Alright. You can take Jasper with you.”

Felice let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. Relief flooded through her.

She turned to Jasper, crouched down, and gently wrapped her arms around him. Her voice softened as she asked, “Jasper, did you miss Mommy?”

He looked up at her and nodded. “Yeah, I missed you.”

Felice kissed his soft cheek. “Then, want to come home with me?”

“Okay.” Jasper’s voice was small, but he seemed a lot calmer now.

She picked him up and started making her way toward the door. That’s when Aaron walked in, knocking first as he entered the office.

He stopped in the doorway when he saw her, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. Then he turned to Lance. “Lance, I have the results from the investigation you asked about.”

Lance didn’t even look up. “Say it.”

Aaron glanced at Felice and looked like he wanted to say something but held back.

Felice caught his hesitation and decided to leave. “Lance, I’ll head out then.”

“No.” Lance stopped her before she could go. He finally looked up at Aaron. “Go ahead.”

Lance just listened quietly, his good looks as unreadable as ever, not letting anything show.

Felice went on, “Lance, I’m not trying to make a scene. I just want you to know what really happened. Please don’t read too much into it.”

Lance suddenly asked, “What do you want?”

Felice blinked, caught off guard. “What?”

He said, “You saved my life. I owe you for that. So if there’s something you want, just say it. I’ll do my best to give it to you.”

Felice lowered her eyes. A trace of sadness appeared on her face. “The only thing I want is for Jackson to still be alive.”

Lance didn’t say another word. The room fell into silence.
