Felice paused, her eyes scanning the busy dining room. It didn’t take long for her to spot Nathalie by the window, sharing a meal with a man. Raising her eyebrows, Felice trailed after Lance.
Nathalie definitely noticed them. Still, she acted like she hadn’t, eyes lowered as she quietly ate her food.
“Fabian.”
Lance walked right over, settling himself at the table next to theirs and greeting Fabian like it was nothing.
Fabian spun around, clearly surprised. “Hey, you’re here too? And who’s this little guy?” He nodded at the boy Lance was carrying.
“That’s Jackson’s son,” Lance replied, his tone flat.
Jasper offered a polite greeting. “Hello, Fabian.”
When his gaze landed on Nathalie, he hesitated, a little nervous, but he still managed, “Nathalie.”
She gave him a brief, uninterested look. “What, you’re not scared of me anymore?”
Jasper shrank back into Lance’s arms.
Lance’s expression hardened. “Stop scaring the kid.”
Nathalie just scoffed, brushing it off.
She glanced over at Lance, Jasper, and Felice, then turned to Fabian. “Don’t they look like a family?”
Fabian actually took a second look, then nodded. “Yeah, they really do.”
Lance shot him an ice-cold glare. “Want to get yourself in trouble?”
Fabian just grinned. “Hey, I’m just being honest. You three walk down the street like that, people would think you’re a family. The kid looks just like you. If you didn’t say he was your nephew, honestly, who would guess? He could totally pass as your own son.”
“Enough,” Lance said, his brow drawing tight. “You’re getting ridiculous.”
Fabian tried to jump in. “Whoa, let’s not go there, okay? Seriously, murder’s illegal. You two have been together eight years. Can’t you at least be civil?”
Lance didn’t even acknowledge Fabian, his focus locked on Nathalie like he might never let go.
Nathalie set her chopsticks down, looking at Fabian. “I’m heading out. Just message me later.”
Fabian nodded. “Got it.”
She stood, making for the exit fast, almost like she was running away.
Fabian watched, about to say something to Lance, but Lance was already getting up to follow her.
He just raised an eyebrow, then turned back to his meal, taking his time.
Then, Felice broke the quiet. “You just got back in town, right? Why are you even dealing with Nathalie? I thought you had your own legal team. Is she asking you for help with her divorce?”
