The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 132

“Nathalie, I’ve wanted these earrings forever. You can't just make something up and expect me to hand them over,” Felice said, trying to keep her voice steady even though she was hurting. She stared right at Nathalie, refusing to back down.

Nathalie’s eyes welled up with angry tears.

Without warning, she grabbed a fistful of Felice’s hair, yanking her head back and snatching the jewelry box from her arms.

“Give them back!”

Felice gasped, but Damaris stepped between them and roughly shoved her away.

“Give what back? Did Lance buy these? Then they belong to the couple. What makes you think you deserve them?” Damaris shoved Felice again and slapped her, hard, across the face.

Felice looked like a complete mess by now. Her hair hung in her face and her cheek was bright red and swollen. Anyone passing by would assume she was the victim.

Tears streamed down her face as she broke down. “Nathalie, please, I’m begging you… these earrings really mean so much to me. They’re my grandfather’s. He left them behind and they got lost. I finally found them, and I just want to make good on his last wish.”

Nathalie glanced in the box at the sapphire earrings, shining quietly. She shut the lid, didn’t bother looking at either of them, and walked away.

Damaris followed right after her.

“Nathalie, wait!”

Felice stood there, heartbroken and humiliated. She wanted to give chase, but the thought of being seen like this, disheveled and red-faced, was just too much.

She turned to Lance, desperate and lost.

“Lance, what am I supposed to do? These belonged to my grandfather. I finally tracked them down...”

Lance frowned, his mind replaying everything he’d just watched happen. There was a storm behind his eyes.

After a long silence, he finally spoke. “I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you somehow.”

Felice dropped her head and sobbed, but her eyes flashed with something sharp and calculating.

Settle things so easily? Not a chance.

She pushed open the door, spoke to the hostess, and her voice drifted over at just the right volume for Lance and Felice to hear.

Lance looked up immediately, his dark gaze zeroing right in on her.

Nathalie shot him a sly little smile, then followed the hostess into a private room.

Damaris didn’t hold back, flipping the couple off behind Nathalie and mouthing something nasty under her breath.

Felice caught the gesture and bit down on her lip. “Lance, I don’t know why Nathalie always thinks the worst of me. I swear, I’ve never done anything to hurt her.”

Lance glanced at her. “Just eat your food.”

Without another word, he stood and walked off in the direction Nathalie and Damaris had gone.

Nathalie was just leaving the restroom when she saw Lance waiting nearby, shoulders squared, radiating that serious, intimidating energy of his.

He heard her footsteps and turned to face her.
