Bagot stepped outside for a smoke. He barely managed to light his cigarette before catching sight of Nathalie down the hallway, walking side by side with a man.
Something about the way they were walking... that looked a little too close, didn’t it? And she was even holding onto his arm? That definitely wasn’t Lance. Lance was right there with him, in the next room.
Bagot completely forgot about his cigarette. He spun around and hurried back into the private room. Leaning close, he whispered to Lance, “I just saw Nathalie. She was with some guy…”
Lance stopped him with a lifted hand, his eyes turning dark and sharp. He stood up so suddenly, Bagot almost backed away. “Come with me,” Lance said.
A chill crept up Bagot’s spine. This wasn’t what he meant to happen. He wasn’t gossiping or trying to stir something up. Still, he quickly followed Lance outside and tried to describe what he’d just seen.
Lance’s glare softened a little. He kept his voice low. “Which way did they go?”
Bagot pointed down the hall. “That way.”
Without another word, Lance headed off in the direction Bagot indicated.
The hallway was lined with private rooms, one after another. Were they seriously going to check every single one? Apparently, yes. They started working their way down the hall, opening doors.
Bagot trailed behind, feeling helpless and just a little annoyed. “Lance, why don’t we just check the security cameras?”
Lance glanced back at him. “Good idea. You handle it.”
Bagot suddenly felt even colder. He instantly shut up and didn’t say another word.
A few minutes earlier…
Nathalie had just finished asking her question when she noticed Gavin clutching his stomach, his face scrunched up in pain.
She frowned. “Are you going to be sick?”
“Sorry,” Gavin managed, looking miserable as he stumbled up and nearly fell over on his way to the bathroom. A few seconds later, she heard retching from inside.
While one guy pinned her to the couch, the other began tugging at her clothes.
Nathalie’s face twisted with fear. “Let go! Don’t touch me! Please, I can give you money!”
One of them just laughed. “Where’s the excitement in that?”
Her struggles were no use. She was pinned so tightly, she could barely move.
Just then, the bathroom door slammed open. Gavin came rushing out, wild-eyed. “Let her go!”
One of the men glanced over with a sneer. “Oh, what’s this? Her boyfriend?” He lashed out and kicked Gavin straight in the stomach.
Gavin doubled over and collapsed, gasping from the pain. Still, he forced himself back up and threw himself at the man, fist swinging.
Caught off guard, the man was struck and froze, shocked by the blow.
