The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 160

Did she actually love him?

Or did she just love the man she remembered from all those years ago?

Around noon, Nathalie got a call from Maggie.

They met up at the coffee shop across the street from the office.

As soon as they sat down, Maggie came right out with it. “Nathalie, I got fired.”

Nathalie’s eyebrows shot up. She hadn’t thought things would happen this fast.

Maggie eyed her like she was trying to read her mind. “You sure you even want to get divorced?”

“I do,” Nathalie answered, calm as ever. “But if he fired you, there’s really nothing I can do.”

Maggie scowled, clearly annoyed. “So how am I supposed to get close to him now?”

She couldn’t help feeling a little bitter toward Nathalie.

If Nathalie hadn’t called her last night, everything would be different.

She could have stayed as Lance’s secretary, shown off how good she was at her job, slowly gotten closer to him.

But then Nathalie had shown up out of nowhere last night and ruined her plans.

Maggie leaned back in her chair, her tone turning sharp. “You’re the one who brought me into this mess, Nathalie, so now you figure it out.”

She was definitely getting cocky.

Nathalie raised a brow, but her voice stayed cool. “You’ve been working around him for a while now. Have you two gotten any closer at all? Has he even once invited you out, just the two of you, for a work dinner?”

Maggie’s eyes flickered nervously. “I… I’m just the new secretary. Of course he wouldn’t take me to anything important.”

“You haven’t even had one dinner with him and you’re already blaming me for screwing up your plan?” Nathalie didn’t hold back. “I gave you a shot. You just didn’t know what to do with it.”

That stung. Maggie bristled and snapped, “Nathalie, what’s that supposed to mean?”

“It means nothing.” Nathalie didn’t flinch. “I want a divorce. You want to hook up with Lance. We’re supposed to be working together, not pointing fingers when things fall apart. And if you really thought I’d just deliver him to your bed, then sorry. If you won’t even make the effort to feed yourself, what makes you think someone else is going to put the food in your mouth?”
