The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 161

She wasn’t mocking. She really meant the question.

Were those two ever going to stop with the drama? What was even the point? If he’d just divorced her earlier, then he and Felice could finally be together. Then his precious nephew would actually have the family he was always talking about. Wouldn’t that solve everything?

Felice’s gaze flickered. “Nathalie, why do you still think there’s something going on between me and Lance? There honestly isn’t.”

Nathalie just stepped back, looking let down. “This is just pointless now.”

She didn’t bother saying anything else or giving Felice another look. She headed back to her desk, pulled out her phone, snapped a quick photo of Felice, and sent it straight to Madonna.

Madonna’s headache started the instant she saw the picture. She just called Lance.

“Mom, what now?” His voice was as cold as ever.

Madonna sighed into the phone. “Do you think you could worry your mom a little less?”

Lance clearly didn’t get it. “What happened?”

“Didn’t we agree yesterday? Felice was supposed to leave the company. So why is she still showing up at work?” Madonna pinched the bridge of her nose. “If she wants a job, fine. The city’s huge. Why does she have to work with Nathalie?”

Lance’s tone got cooler. “Mom, you really don’t need to get involved. Have you been home too long this time? Isn’t your medical team asking when you’ll come back?”

Madonna was silent for a few seconds.

Ungrateful kid.

“I’m right here and you’re already taking Felice’s side this much. Imagine the chaos if I left.” She let out a huff. “I’m not going anywhere for a while, so don’t try pushing me out.”

She hung up.

Felice working at the voice studio really left her at a loss. She had no idea what was going on in her son’s head. Honestly, it was exhausting.

Nathalie came back to her desk and noticed a fancy box of chocolates sitting there.

Gavin followed her gaze, and for a split second he just looked stunned. “Wait, why’d you toss it?”

“There was no name. I figured it might be poisoned,” Nathalie answered, completely deadpan.

He let out a breath, almost laughing. “Alright, this PSA is officially all yours. Clearly, you take your safety seriously.”

Before, he’d sounded like he was asking for a favor. Now, since the chocolates were in the trash, he didn’t even bother pretending. He just walked off.

Nathalie was left staring. Seriously? She should have used a different trash can.

Luckily, the PSA was a super short script—just a minute, a couple of lines—so she was done in half an hour.

When she finished up and packed her things, Gavin came out of his office. He looked over at her with a smile.

“Let me buy you dinner. It’s the least I can do for helping out with the ad.”
