Nathalie froze. "Why? Did you do something wrong?"

Gavin shook his head. "No idea. I just got the email this morning."

He was already packed up, clutching a big cardboard box, his face a mix of frustration and confusion.

Nathalie looked down, thinking hard, her hands curling into fists.

Lance. This had to be him.

He’d never meddled in her work, but going after someone else’s… seriously?

She let out a slow breath, grabbed her phone, and called Lance.

It only rang three times before he picked up. His voice came through rich and warm. "Nathalie."

"Our department manager just got fired. Was that your doing?" Nathalie didn't bother with small talk.

Lance’s tone stayed gentle, that dangerous kind of calm. "Are you really calling me about another man?"

He might have been miles away, but she could still hear the edge in his words.

Nathalie forced herself to keep her cool. "Don’t you think you went too far? He didn’t do anything wrong."

Lance let out a low, quiet laugh. "You ate together. He tried to get closer to you. Isn’t that enough? Nathalie, I’m not the forgiving type. I can’t stand any man getting near you."

Nathalie inhaled sharply and hung up.

Now it was obvious. Gavin got fired because of her.

She thought for a second, then dialed her mom.

"Nathalie, is something wrong?"

"Mom, I need a favor. Can you help a friend of mine find a job?" Nathalie went straight to the point.

Madonna sounded curious. "Who? What does he do?"

Gavin looked like he’d just gotten hit by a stray bullet.

A moment later, his phone rang. He shot Nathalie a long, complicated look, then answered.

When he hung up, he said, "They’ve transferred me to a branch office. I seriously don’t know if I should be grateful, or annoyed."

Nathalie managed a wry smile. "You can be both. I won’t mind."

Gavin just shook his head, speechless.

In the end, he still left the voice acting company.

As Nathalie turned, she noticed Felice nearby, clearly having seen the whole scene play out.

"You and Gavin seem pretty close," Felice said, grinning.

Nathalie couldn’t be bothered. She just walked back into her office without a word.

Felice raised an eyebrow, a knowing smile on her lips. Then she pulled out her phone and quietly sent everything she’d just witnessed to Lance, keeping herself anonymous.
