The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 165

Suddenly, she cracked a sly smile. “Alright. As long as you don't see Felice or Jasper, I'll do whatever you say.”

She tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with challenge and just a hint of mockery.

“Lance, do you think you can actually pull that off?”

“There’s nothing between Felice and me,” Lance replied, his voice low and heavy. “So this deal doesn’t feel fair.”

The curve in Nathalie’s smile faded, and her tone turned even sharper. “Then I’m not listening to you either. Let me go.”

Lance’s tall frame hovered over her. Just minutes ago, their kisses had been wild and heated. Now, she was ice cold, keeping her distance. Not even the most passionate kiss could make her lose control. She was always the first to pull away, sharp and clearheaded.

Lance’s jaw tensed. Suddenly, he flung open the passenger-side door and briskly pushed her inside.

Nathalie was startled. “What are you doing?”

Lance leaned in, holding her chin, his dark eyes locked on hers. “Nathalie, stop working.”

Her mind went blank, like something had exploded right inside her head.

She stared in disbelief. “What did you say? You want to force me to quit? Lance, you really are a jerk.”

She swung at him, aiming to land a blow.

This time, Lance didn’t even try to dodge.

Staring at the anger burning on her face, his voice turned calm. “If you won’t listen to me, then just don’t work at all.”

“No way.”

Nathalie gritted her teeth, glaring right at him. “Lance, if you dare get me fired, I’ll make your life hell.”

Lance frowned but didn’t answer. Instead, he leaned over and buckled her seatbelt for her.

Then he got into the driver’s seat.

He pulled away from the curb and drove straight to Lumina Grand.

“Get out,” he said simply.

Nathalie glared at him, her voice icy. “Did you even hear what I just said?”

Lance stood by the car, watching her bristle like a porcupine, ready to fight.

The master bedroom looked exactly the same, not a single thing out of place.

As they fell onto the bed, Lance reached into the nightstand and pulled out a small box.

She felt something slip onto her finger.

She tried to look but he kissed her again, intertwining their fingers right over the spot.

By the end, she was too exhausted to even check.

When Nathalie woke up the next morning, Lance was already gone. She looked down at her right hand. All her fingers were bare. Not a ring in sight.

Did she just imagine the whole thing last night?

She felt lost for a moment but didn’t bother to dwell on it.

When she got to work, she saw Gavin at his desk packing up his things. As soon as he spotted her, his eyes grew complicated.

“Nathalie,” he said, his voice tired. “I’ve been let go.”
