“Lance!”
Nathalie’s voice came out rough, almost breaking as she called after him. “Are you really not worried I’ll go out there and kill her?”
He cared about Felice so much. For her, he was willing to do anything. How could he possibly let anyone hurt her?
Lance stopped for a second and looked back, his face hard and cold. “You wouldn’t dare.”
Then he pushed open the door and left.
“Come back! Lance, get back here!” Nathalie shouted, tears streaming down her cheeks, trembling with anger. “I want a divorce! Do you hear me? I hate you, Lance!”
Only her desperate, heartbroken voice echoed from behind the door.
Lance stood out in the hallway. A vein in his forehead twitched. His jaw was clenched, and frustration clouded his face.
He had tried to pull up the security footage, only to find out there were no cameras in that stairwell. That was why people liked going there for a smoke.
But deep down, he knew Nathalie would never do something like this.
Sure, she hated Felice, but she was always upfront about it. She would never pull some sneaky stunt behind anyone’s back.
Still, she didn’t even try to explain herself. She just let everyone believe it was her.
She was cornering him again, pushing for a divorce.
Nathalie was so desperate to end things, she didn’t even care about her own reputation anymore.
A heavy, suffocating pressure built up in his chest, making him breathe harder. He looked pale and tense, easily agitated by everything around him.
Lance ended up sitting in the police chief’s office for a while, trying to clear his head before finally going outside.
He had just gotten into his car when his phone rang. Camilla’s name flashed on the screen.
Camilla pulled Felice into a warm hug. “You did nothing wrong, honey. This isn’t your fault. Nathalie’s just being unreasonable, refusing to let things go. Sometimes I can’t help but wish you really were my daughter.”
Felice broke down, her sobs muffled against Camilla’s shoulder, looking so small and helpless in her arms.
Camilla felt her heart ache for her. When Daniel walked in, she said gently, “Let’s give Felice some of the group’s projects. I really believe she’ll make us proud.”
Daniel thought for a second before nodding. “Alright.”
Felice had already turned down her share of Blair Group’s stocks, and both parents felt guilty about it. Now, with Nathalie stirring up even more trouble, they only wanted to make it up to Felice.
Daniel pulled out a card and held it out to Felice. “Here, there’s thirty million on this. Spend it however you want. Don’t be upset anymore. Your mom and I will always stand by you.”
Felice wiped her eyes. “Thank you, Mom, Dad. You’re both so good to me.”
Camilla gently combed her fingers through Felice’s hair, her voice soft. “Of course, we’re good to you. You’re family.”
