Once the acquisition happened, their independence would be gone, and the company would just become another part of The Adams Group.
He really didn’t want to agree to this.
But The Adams Group wasn’t playing around. They made it clear that if the deal fell through, they’d pull out their investment and end all future collaborations.
The owner was completely overwhelmed. In the end, he had no choice but to give in.
While the deal for the audio company was moving full speed ahead, Lance had already shown up at the restaurant where Nathalie and her friends were eating. Her bodyguards were quietly giving him live updates about her whereabouts.
They’d just gone into a private dining room. Lance, looking serious, asked for the room right next to theirs.
He found himself alone in a big, almost empty space. The walls weren’t as soundproof as he’d hoped. He could hear voices on the other side, and every so often, Nathalie’s laughter floated through.
Lance sat there, his mood getting darker by the minute as he listened to her laugh with someone else.
How could she be this happy around another guy?
Had she already forgotten she once said she loved him more than anyone?
His hands curled into fists on his lap, his expression turning colder and more stormy with every passing second.

Throughout dinner, Damaris started to get a feel for who Freddy really was. He was relaxed and down-to-earth, none of that uptight, snobby behavior she’d expected. He even told a few jokes. Somehow, the group started feeling closer without them really noticing.
“We're friends now, right? Let's drop the formalities,” Damaris blurted out, grinning.
Nathalie hesitated. Were they really that close already?
Freddy just smiled, warm and easy. “You’re right. All this politeness feels a little stiff.”
Damaris nodded. “Exactly! Nathalie, what do you think?”
The valet’s attack missed. His eyes went wild. He turned to the person next to Freddy and aimed the knife again.
That person was Nathalie.
“Nathalie, watch out!” Damaris screamed.
Freddy’s face went pale as he tried to reach for Nathalie, but his earlier move had put a gap between them.
Nathalie’s mind went completely blank. Her body froze. All she could think was to run, but her arms and legs wouldn’t budge.
Right before the knife could hit her, she suddenly felt someone grab her and yank her back. The next instant, the valet went flying, kicked hard away from them.
A familiar, fresh scent washed over her. Lance's deep voice sounded right by her ear. “Hold him.”
Almost immediately, security guards appeared out of nowhere and pinned the valet to the ground.
