Felice’s eyes shimmered with guilt. She tried to sit up and said, “I should be the one to apologize. This is all because of me. If I hadn’t been so pathetic, fallen, and gotten hurt, Dad wouldn’t have lost his temper. He wouldn’t have hit Nathalie, and Lance wouldn’t have snapped at him. I’ll say sorry to Nathalie. If she forgives me, I’ll do whatever she wants.”
Camilla hurriedly pressed her back onto the bed. “Felice, this isn’t on you. Your father is just disciplining his family. That’s his right. It’s Lance who’s sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong.”
Felice’s eyes grew red with tears. “But... if I don’t apologize, Lance is never going to quit.”
Camilla glanced at Daniel. “What choice do we have? Are we really supposed to apologize to Nathalie? It’s ridiculous.”
Daniel paused, thinking things over. Then he said, “I’ll go talk to the Adams family.”
He was determined to get the Adams family to put some pressure on Lance. There was no way this mess couldn’t be fixed.
He stood and left the room.
Not long after he was gone, two bodyguards showed up and posted themselves right outside the hospital door.
Camilla spotted them and asked, “Who are you?”
One of the bodyguards replied, “We’re here on Mr. Lance’s orders. We’re protecting Ms. Felice.”
Camilla’s expression twisted with mixed feelings.
Lance was taking action against The Blair Group but also sending guards to protect Felice. What exactly was he playing at?
Felice was still set on apologizing to Nathalie. As soon as Camilla stepped out, Felice tried to get out of bed, nearly stumbling in the process.
But before she could get far, the bodyguards blocked her path at the door.
“What’s going on?” Felice asked, confused.
The guard replied, “Mr. Lance told us you’re badly hurt. You need rest. He asked us to make sure you don’t wander around and slow your recovery.”
Felice’s heart sank.
Was Lance expecting her to look for Nathalie? Was he trying to keep her out of it?
Felice clenched her fists. “I just want to go for a walk.”
The bodyguard didn’t budge. “Ms. Felice, please don’t make things difficult for us.”
Lance set the box of pies on the nightstand and looked at her.
Nathalie stared back at him. “How long are you planning to keep me locked up? You haven’t shown your face at all. Did you forget what I told you yesterday?”
Lance calmly opened the box. “These are from that place you really like. Have something to eat first.”
Nathalie stared at the pies, then abruptly stood and grabbed the box.
Lance didn’t try to stop her.
The very next second, Nathalie threw the entire box straight into the trash can.
“I’m not staying here, and you can’t just keep me locked up. You’re coming with me to the registry office. We’re getting a divorce.”
The smell of the pies lingered in the room, but now, they were just food for the garbage.
Lance’s brows drew together, his eyes locked onto her face.
“You don’t like these pies anymore?” he said quietly. “Then tell me what you want, and I’ll get it for you.”
