Daniel sat at the head of the table, his expression locked in a dark scowl as the chatter around him buzzed nonstop. Anger just kept burning inside him.
He never thought Lance would actually go through with it, that he’d really turn on his own father-in-law. The nerve of that guy.
Nearby, his assistant was fielding call after call. Every time she glanced over at Daniel, anxiety was written all over her face.
The tension in the conference room was thick. It felt like no one dared to breathe.
Daniel shut his eyes in frustration and finally spoke. “That’s it for now. The meeting’s over. I’ll deal with this myself.”
He stood without waiting for a response and walked right out of the conference room.
His assistant hurried after him, her voice tiptoeing behind him, “Chairman, a few more of our partners said they want to ‘wait and see’…”
Daniel barely looked at her and waved his hand, his voice flat. “I heard you. That’s enough.”
The assistant had no choice but to retreat out of his office.
Left alone, Daniel snapped. He swept everything off his desk, the crash echoing in the empty room. For a second, he stood there, eyes squeezed shut as if trying to hold himself together. Then he grabbed his phone and called Lance.
Of course, it wasn’t Lance who picked up. It was Aaron, the executive assistant.
“Mr. Blair, what can I do for you?” Aaron’s tone was cold and official.
Daniel’s patience was gone. “Where’s Lance? Put him on.”
“Mr. Adams is in a meeting. If you have something to say, I can pass it on to him,” Aaron answered, not missing a beat.
So Lance wouldn’t even talk to him now. Great.
Without another word, Daniel hung up and stormed out of the building.

At the hospital, the edge of pain in Nathalie’s back had dulled, but lying down was still impossible. She tried to leave, but the bodyguards blocked her way.
Through the glass, he met Nathalie’s eyes. Father and daughter stared at each other in silence until she finally looked away.
He cursed quietly in his head and turned away, leaving.
He made his way to Felice’s room instead. They were on different floors, but still under the same roof.
Camilla’s face filled with worry when she saw him. “What happened?”
Daniel filled her in on everything going down at the company.
Camilla’s face drained of color. “How could Lance do that? You’re his father-in-law.”
Felice was stunned too. “Dad, is it true? Lance really went after The Blair Group?”
Daniel just nodded. The hospital room fell heavy and silent.
