“I’m really sorry about last time. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Freddy’s face softened with regret.

Nathalie gave a little nod. “Yeah, it was kind of scary. Who were those people, anyway? Did you sort everything out?”

“Pretty much.” Freddy’s voice turned lighter, almost joking. “You don’t need to worry about anything when you’re with me now.”

He grinned, steering the conversation away from the tense moment.

“When I came in, I thought for sure you were waiting for someone. But you’re here eating all by yourself?” Freddy shot her a curious look. “Need any help?”

Nathalie considered it, then shook her head. “Not right now. But don’t worry, if I do, I’ll call you.”

Freddy glanced at his phone and gave her a teasing look. “You know, you’ve never actually called me before. Want to call me right now? So I can save your number?”

Nathalie hesitated for a second, but he had a point. They were friends, and what if she did need him someday? He might not answer if it was just a random number.

So she nodded, took out her phone, and called his number.

A moment later, Freddy’s phone lit up with her call. He quickly saved her contact, lips curving into a satisfied smile. “This feels more like real friendship.”

Nathalie tilted her head in confusion. “What do you mean?”

“I guess there’s always been a bit of distance between us,” Freddy admitted. “But now... I don’t know, it feels more natural.”

Nathalie gave a slow nod and then asked, “Do you want anything else to eat?”

“I’m good,” Freddy said, content. “This place is amazing, honestly. I’ll have to come back.”

When they stepped outside, the sky was already dark. Streetlights glowed softly as they stood by the curb.

Nathalie didn’t argue with that. It really had scared her.

She didn’t refuse him this time and slid into his car.

As Freddy started driving, he glanced over, looking thoughtful. “The Blair Group’s having a rough time lately. Are you okay?”

His question made Nathalie’s lashes flutter. She thought of Lance and how he operated.

The Blair Group had almost collapsed. That was all Lance. Did it end there? What if he wasn’t done? She was supposed to inherit everything. If the company went under, there’d be nothing left for her.

She forced a calm smile. “I’m alright. The Blair Group should be recovering soon.”

Freddy watched her, his tone gentle but serious. “Everyone knows it’s The Adams Group causing trouble. I’m worried about you, Nathalie. If Lance ever tries to use this against you... if he forces you into anything, I can help you.”
