The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 222

Nathalie: I don’t think so.

Gavin: Seriously, I’ve never had this much bad luck. Ever since I met Lance, it’s just one mess after another.

Gavin: When do you have time to meet? If it really is Lance causing all this, maybe you could talk to him?

Nathalie’s fingers tensed as she hesitated, then a voice broke her thoughts from above. “We’ve reached the first floor.”

She quickly locked her phone and slipped it into her pocket.

The car stopped at the main entrance. The driver got out and opened the door with quiet respect.

“Lance, Nathalie.”

“Yeah,” Lance replied, his tone calm. He motioned for Nathalie to get in first and then walked around to the other side.

Nathalie stared blankly out the window, her face icy and distant.

Lance was the first to break the silence. “There’s a banquet in a few days. I want you to come with me.”

Nathalie didn’t even hesitate. “I’m not going.”

Lance’s voice was cool and steady. “So you can either go to the banquet or stay locked up at home. It’s your choice.”

Nathalie didn’t say a word.

She clenched her teeth, and for a second, she honestly thought if she had a knife, she’d stab him without a second thought.

“All you know how to do is threaten me,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Lance just looked at her, a hint of helplessness in his eyes. “If I didn’t, you’d never listen.”

Nathalie’s glare only grew colder. “What’s the point of all this? The more you do this, the more I can’t stand you.”

Lance’s expression darkened.

She kept throwing hate and rejection at him, over and over again.

He hated hearing it, but somehow they were just stuck in this miserable loop, like no matter what he did, he couldn’t break out of it.

He looked at her, his voice rough. “So, have you made your choice?”

“I’d rather just stay home and rest.” Nathalie kept her face turned away. The thought of pretending to be a loving couple with him in public was laughable.

His stare felt like it weighed a ton. Nathalie could feel her breath tightening.

Why was he looking at her like that? Was he about to explode again?

She kept her eyes ahead, focusing on the scenery outside the window, refusing to give him any reaction.

After a minute, the intensity of his gaze faded.

She let out a slow, careful breath.

The car pulled into her apartment complex and parked in the underground garage. Lance followed her out.

She wasted no time. “I’m already home. You don’t have to walk me in.”

Lance’s voice was low and steady. “I made you dinner. I’ll leave after you eat.”

Nathalie eyed him warily. “I’ll just order takeout.”

“Nathalie, just don’t turn me away.”

Lance stepped in front of her, his tone gentle but firm. “It doesn’t matter if you refuse.”
