The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 224

Madonna looked at him, her eyes full of mixed feelings. “So you’re done going after The Blair Group now?” she asked.

Lance lifted his eyes to her. “What are you getting at?”

She let out a sharp breath, her tone annoyed. “Even if I told you, would you actually listen? The Blair Group is still Nathalie’s family. With the way you keep targeting them, how is she supposed to get along with her parents after this?”

Lance answered quietly, “Daniel hit her.”

Madonna paused for a moment, caught off guard. Then she said, “That’s still a matter between a father and his daughter. You really didn’t have to make such a big deal out of it.”

“Mom, it’s done now. There’s really no point in talking about it anymore.” Lance’s voice stayed calm, but Madonna could tell he was running out of patience.

She clamped her mouth shut and decided not to say anything else.

With Lance around, Jasper quickly settled down and fell asleep in his arms. Lance gently laid him on the hospital bed, then left the room.

He got in his car and drove to the hospital where Felice was staying.

When he reached Felice’s room, the bodyguard at the door nodded at him. “Lance.”

He gave a low reply, then pushed open the door.

Felice looked up, surprised to see him come in so late. “Lance? Is something wrong?”

He kept his voice even. “You should come back to The Adams Estate to recover. Starting tomorrow.”

Felice’s eyes flickered. “I don’t really want to go back. Given everything, it feels awkward for me to be at the Adams place now.”

He looked steady. “What’s awkward about it? You’re Jasper’s mother. No one’s going to say a word to you. Unless, of course, you have something to hide.”

Felice forced a small smile. “Of course not. I’ll do as you say.”

Lance nodded. “I have people running your company while you recover. When you’re better, you can go back to work. Start learning how to run things, manage stuff.”

...

With Lance gone, Nathalie finally felt at ease. She ate dinner, went over her script for a while, and then headed for a shower.

After getting ready for bed, her phone buzzed. Damaris had sent her a message.

Damaris: Nathalie, remember I said I’d look into why your parents adopted Felice?

Nathalie’s energy returned instantly. She called Damaris on video.

When the screen lit up, Damaris’s face filled it. She looked a mix of lost and confused.

Nathalie frowned, puzzled. “What’s with that face? Did you find anything?”

Damaris shook her head. “No, and that’s the strangest part. I couldn’t find a single thing about Felice’s life before she entered the orphanage. Not one detail.”
