“My grandmother trusts you, so I trust you too. Please keep helping me,” Nathalie said, letting out a sigh.
Her hand was cramping up from all the signatures. Even now, with all those new responsibilities officially hers, it hardly felt real.
She glanced at Garth. “Is the security company based here in Cabinda?”
“If you’d like it to be, it can be,” Garth replied.
Nathalie smiled. “Let’s move it here, then.”
“Alright.”
Garth nodded, then asked, “Ms. Blair, is there anything else you need? Just let me know, I’ll take care of it for you.”
“Let me think,” Nathalie said.
“Of course. Text me whenever you need something.”
They’d already exchanged numbers, so talking over messages was easy.
“Okay,” Nathalie said with a nod.
Garth left with the paperwork. Nathalie headed back to the office, still a little out of sorts. Was she really just a normal rich woman this morning and a super-wealthy one now?
But for now, there was something urgent she needed to handle.
She shot Garth a message.
Nathalie: I need a top-notch legal team for my divorce.
Garth: Got it. I’ll arrange everything.
She put her phone down and finally let herself breathe, feeling a weight start to loosen.
Back in her office, Nathalie went straight back to work. Sure, her net worth had skyrocketed, but the work on her desk still had to get done.
The hours flew by. That afternoon, Garth messaged again—everything was ready.
Nathalie was stunned by how quickly he moved. That was fast.
Garth laughed. “They’re all from the security company. People have already been arriving in Cabinda. They can take your orders now.”
So they were all security company staff, huh?
Nathalie gripped her phone. “Good. I’ll send you my location. Just keep them close, make sure they’re watching over me.”
“Understood.”
She met Gavin at a restaurant that was famous for being private and discreet.
Walking into the private room, she found him already there. The difference in him was stark—he looked nothing like the confident guy she remembered. He was hunched over, looking lost.
Nathalie sat across from him, unable to hide her surprise. “You’ve changed a lot.”
Gavin gave her a weak, bitter smile. “I joined a new company, but people there cut me out. The boss has it in for me too. I put in my best effort on every project, but things always went wrong. Even projects I wasn’t supposed to handle would somehow end up messed up in my hands…”
He took a shaky breath. “Nathalie, I think someone’s out to get me. The only person who comes to mind is Lance. Isn’t he with you today?”
