Daniel and Camilla froze for a second, caught off guard by Lance’s words.
Daniel stared hard at Lance, his face going cold. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Lance didn’t answer right away. He was still watching Nathalie, his gaze fixed on the bright red handprint spreading across her cheek. Something dark flickered in his eyes, and when he spoke again, his voice was sharp and steady.
“My grandmother needs some quiet to rest.”
He turned to look at them, his eyes serious. “You both should go home for now.”
He was sending them away, no question about it.
After rushing to the hospital the second they found out Leda had been admitted, Daniel and Camilla now found themselves being told to leave.
Daniel’s jaw clenched. He let out a cold snort and stormed out without another word.
Camilla stepped up, worry etched on her face as she looked Nathalie over. “Nathalie, go put some ice on your face. Your dad was just angry. Once he cools down, he’ll regret what he did. You’ll see.”
Nathalie kept her head down, lashes fluttering like she might cry. Suddenly, with everyone distracted, she darted in front of Felice and slapped her hard across the face.
Felice’s shocked scream rang out as her hand flew to her cheek.
“Mom!” Jasper shrieked, seeing his mother hurt. Without thinking, he rushed at Nathalie.
“You hit my mom, you’re mean… you’re a bad lady!”
He was only three, and he hit Nathalie with all the force a toddler could, which wasn’t much at all. Still, Nathalie didn’t want him touching her. She stepped away in reflex, just as Jasper stumbled and landed on the floor, bursting into loud sobs.
“Bad woman! You hit my mommy and pushed me! Bad woman!”
Nathalie wiped her face and looked right at him, her eyes suddenly blazing. “Did you forget already? I told you, until you divorce me, I’ll make her suffer every time I see her.”
Her eyes landed on Jasper. “And if you keep crying, I’ll steal you away. You’ll never see your mom or Lance again.”
Jasper’s wailing grew even louder.
“Take her back. Lock her up in the old house!” Daniel’s furious voice echoed from down the hall.
The bodyguards moved in, grabbing Nathalie, their grip firm.
Lance tried to go after her, but Jasper clung to his neck, sobbing harder. “Lance, don’t go. Please, don’t leave me. Please…”
Caught in place, Lance couldn’t move, not with Jasper hanging onto him. Before anyone could do anything else, Nathalie was already being led away.
