The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 28

“Nathalie, what are you doing?” Felice gasped, digging into her purse for a tissue and quickly dabbing water off Lance’s face.

Lance brushed her hand away and stared at Nathalie, his gaze dark and sharp. “Grandma needs someone here. I’ll have someone drive you home.”

Nathalie held tight to the empty bottle in her hand. “You can hire a nurse, or have the butler stay. But today, you’re coming with me, and we’re settling this divorce. No more excuses.”

“You insolent child!” Daniel’s angry voice rang out behind her.

He strode over with Camilla close by, his face pinched and furious. “Nathalie, did you even listen to my warnings, or did they go right out the other ear?”

Camilla reached for Nathalie’s hand and squeezed it gently. “Nathalie, Leda just woke up. Please, don’t upset her right now with this kind of talk.”

One parent glared at her, the other tried to calm her down.

Nathalie turned and met their eyes. “Do you even know what he’s been hiding?”

Lance’s breathing tightened.

He reached for her hand. “Nathalie, let me take you home.”

A minute ago he wanted someone else to do it. Suddenly, he was volunteering, just so she wouldn’t blurt out his secret?

Nathalie pulled her hand free, her voice rising. “He did it for Jackson’s son, so he could keep seeing Felice in secret. He—”

“Nathalie.” Daniel cut her off, his anger barely controlled. “That’s your sister you’re talking about! How could you say something so ugly? When did she ever cross a line with Lance? If you think she did, show us the proof. Don’t drag her name through the mud just because of your wild guesses!”

A sharp slap echoed through the room.

“Dad!” Lance barked, his face turning icy. His eyes went hard and cold. “You shouldn’t have hit her. She’s my wife.”

Daniel was so angry his hands trembled. “Suit yourself, Lance. If you want to spoil her rotten, don’t blame me when she spins out of control!”

Camilla rushed to help. “Lance, take Nathalie and get her cleaned up. I’ll go talk to your father. He’s just upset.”

Lance’s expression was bleak. “Grandma needs to rest. You should both head home for now.”
