“Ms. Blair, is there something you’re not telling us?” Nicol stared at her, eyebrows pulled together. “Why would someone from overseas want you dead? Unless you’ve got some secret identity we don’t know about.”

Nathalie just shook her head, a weary smile on her lips. “There’s really nothing like that. I’m just Daniel and Camilla’s daughter. I even did a DNA test, remember?”

Nicol looked even more puzzled. He scratched his head, frowning. “That

makes zero sense.”

Elsewhere, in another hospital.

Aaron stood by Lance’s bedside, giving his report. “I looked into it. The name that keeps coming up is Fabian.”

Lance repeated the name under his breath, his mind racing back to the last time Nathalie used Fabian to put pressure on William. Fabian’s background was simple enough, at least on the surface. But he’d been living overseas for years.

Lance glanced over at Aaron, voice cool. “Look into what he’s been doing abroad all this time. I want details.”

Aaron nodded. For a second, he looked like he wanted to say something more and finally spoke up. “Lance, do you think it could be a

misunderstanding? From what I found, one of Fabian’s family members is in that same care facility.”

Lance didn’t even hesitate. “There are no coincidences in this world.”

He couldn’t risk missing anything, not when strangers out there wanted Nathalie dead. He would never let that happen.

“All circuits are busy. Please try your call again later…”

He listened to the robotic voice, jaw clenched. That vein at his temple started throbbing. She’d blocked his number.

He stared at the screen, anger simmering under the surface, but after a moment he slowed his breathing, forced himself to calm down.

Suddenly, his phone rang. Barely glancing at the screen, he answered right away. “Nathalie?”

“Lance, it’s me.”

He realized instantly it was Felice’s voice. His tone went cold. “Felice. What’s going on?”

Felice sounded tired, her energy gone. “Is my company really going to

survive?”

Lance didn’t even pause. “Yes. I’ll give you the funding, and send

someone to manage things for now. When you’re ready to run it yourself, my people will leave.”

Felice laughed, the sound sad and hollow. “Nathalie’s coming after The Blair Group because of me. What if she goes after you next? I hate seeing you two at odds like this. Forget about the investment. Just let me take Jasper and go. That would be best for all of us.”

“No.”

Lance was unmoved, his answer sharp and certain. “Jasper stays with the Adams family. If you want to leave, that’s up to you.”

Felice was silent, caught off guard. When she spoke again, her voice was just above a whisper. “Lance, do you honestly not care who saved your life all those years ago?”
