Madonna looked away, trying not to meet his eyes. She wrapped her arms around Jasper, her voice gentle but shaky. “Lance, now that you’re awake, you should get some rest. I’ll take Jasper home so he can lie down too.”
Lance called out, his voice rough. “Aaron.”
Aaron stepped closer and took Jasper from her arms, his tone careful and kind. “Jasper, want me to take you to see your mom?” They’d been out for a while now, and Jasper was starting to miss his mother. He nodded quietly. Aaron carried him out, leaving Madonna standing there with nothing to hide behind.
Panic rushed through her. Without Jasper, she suddenly felt exposed.
Bagot picked up on the tense energy between them and started to say something, but Lance cut him off. “You can head home.”
Bagot nodded. When he reached the door, something occurred to him and he paused. “Oh, right. Nathalie called earlier this morning.”
ance didn’t even flinch. “Okay.”
Bagot gave him a puzzled look. Ever since things went south between _ance and Nathalie, Bagot had seen how hard Lance was holding on, how much he hated the idea of divorce. He was always waiting for Nathalie to reach out. But now, Lance was acting like it didn’t matter at all.
Still, Bagot didn’t push it. He left the room in silence.
The hospital lights were harsh, painting the room in an unkind white and making everyone look washed out.
Madonna bit her lip. “Lance, I’m sorry. I messed up…”
“Why did you do it?” Lance’s eyes were cold and dark, watching her
She tried to explain, her words tumbling out. “Because I can’t watch you stay with Nathalie. There’s too much danger around her. If you keep standing by her side, you’ll just get dragged into the mess. If you two were still in love, maybe I would’ve let it go, but she doesn’t love you anymore. She wants to divorce you as soon as she can…”

se words cut straight through Lance, hurting more than he’d ever mit. His face went even paler, but he didn’t react otherwise. He just kept his mask up.
“I did it because I care about you, Lance. I’m just scared of losing you. Jackson is already gone. If something happened to you too, how would I even go on?” Madonna’s voice broke, tears slipping down her face.

“I will,” he murmured.
“That’s all I ask.” With that, Madonna didn’t argue. She turned and left the room, her steps dragging.
Silence filled the space after she was gone. Lance sat there, the pain in his arm pulsing in dull reminders. His dark eyes looked hollowed out, and it felt like everything that happened last night was just a bad dream. The ache in his arm told him it was all too real.
He closed his eyes for a moment, then reached over, picked up his phone, and dialed Nathalie’s number.
headed straight for the Adams Estate.
Inside, Madonna was packing her things. She looked tired – her flight was in two hours.
“Lance, did you come to say goodbye?” There was a touch of sadness in her voice.
“No,” Lance said, completely flat.
Madonna paused, waiting. “Then why are you here?”
‘Where’s Felice?” Lance’s voice held no warmth.
‘She’s been at home,” Madonna answered. After a moment, she added, ‘Lance, this whole thing was my idea. You should just let it go…
_ance cut her off, his face growing colder. “She’s an adult, she could have said no. She told me she only loved Jackson, but that was a lie.”
So Nathalie had been right the whole time. Felice wasn’t as innocent as she seemed. The way Felice felt about him made his skin crawl.
Lance’s eyes flashed with disgust. He found himself regretting all the patience and kindness he’d given Felice, all for Jackson’s sake.
Madonna stayed quiet, knowing it was pointless to argue with him.
_ance walked into the living room and spotted Felice halfway up the stairs, moving fast. “Felice James,” he called out, his voice hard.
Felice froze, turning back in shock. “Did you just call me that?”
He’d always called her Felice before. Now it was full name, and with that last name too. She wasn’t a James anymore – hadn’t been for a long
time.
Lance’s eyes were icy. “If Jackson knew what you were really thinking, I wonder if he’d regret marrying you.”
Felice’s whole body trembled. She went pale, tears slipping down her
