The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 36

Nathalie clenched her fingers tight, her voice raw. "Can you find out who put her up to this?"

Damaris was fuming. "That’s exactly what’s driving me crazy! My friend said it's Blair. Your piece-of-crap husband. Isn’t she always showing off for him? So why does she have to steal your role too? Seriously, anything you do, she has to go and one-up you? If you went out and ate garbage, would she have to grab a bite first to see how it tastes?"

Nathalie tried for a smile, but it barely made it to her lips. "Yeah, well, I’m not eating garbage."

Damaris blinked and huffed. "It was just an example! I swear, I’m so mad right now. I shouldn’t have let you talk me down that day. Should’ve just gone over there and ripped her hair out!"

Nathalie shut her eyes for a second, letting her body sink slowly into the couch. "It’s all so out in the open now, so why won’t he just go through with the divorce?"

Damaris’ brow knit with worry. "Right? Why not? If he cares so much about that… woman, shouldn't he want to make her official?"

Her new life was supposed to be starting, but the role she’d worked so hard for was gone. Lance had handed it over to Felice himself.

Who did he think he was?

How could he do this to her?

She wasn’t going to let it slide.

Suddenly, Nathalie got up and marched right out.

Damaris hurried after her. "Nathalie, where are you going?"

"To the hospital." Nathalie’s voice was ice cold. "I want to ask him what the hell he’s thinking."

Her eyes were already rimmed red, but she was holding herself together by sheer will.

"I’ll come with you," Damaris blurted. "I’ll help you smack some sense into him!"

But before she could move, her phone started ringing. She answered, voice impatient. "Hello? Mom? What’s up?"

Whatever she heard on the line changed her face in an instant. "Alright, I’m coming home now." She looked back at Nathalie, guilt all over her face. "I can’t go with you, something’s come up at home. I really have to go back."

Nathalie just nodded. "Don’t worry. We’ll stay in touch."

The vibe in the room shattered. All that peace and calm vanished in a blink.

"So, you’re not too hurt to find her a job?" Nathalie’s voice was sharp, almost mocking. "Funny, for someone who’s supposed to be so injured, you have plenty of energy to help her."

Lance’s brows drew together. "What are you talking about?"

"Don’t act clueless." It took everything in Nathalie not to lose it right there. "If you did it, just admit it. Stop playing innocent in front of me and scheming behind my back. Doesn’t it get tiring?"

Lance looked more confused, his frown deepening. "Nathalie, I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. Is this some kind of misunderstanding?"

Felice stepped forward, her eyes darting with worry. "Nathalie, I really think you’re misunderstanding something. Lance just started getting better. Don’t be so harsh, okay? Try to be a little gentler."

Nathalie raised her hand, ready to slap her, but her wrist was caught mid-air.

"Nathalie, why are you trying to hit her again? What’s gotten into you?" Lance’s voice was cold as ice, cutting through the tension in the room.
