Nathalie came home and bumped into Freddy downstairs
“Nathalie, you don’t look so good. Are you feeling alright?” Freddy asked, glancing over with real concern, his dog tugging gently at the leash in his hand.
She nodded, a little tired. “Yeah, I caught a cold.”
Freddy brightened. “You know, I make this soup that works wonders when someone’s sick. Seriously, everyone says it helps. Want some?”
Nathalie looked at him, surprised. “Really? Is it that good?”
He gave her a small, confident smile. “You should try it for yourself.”
“Okay, sure,” she agreed. The truth was, some hot soup actually sounded perfect right now.
She remembered how, whenever she’d been sick before, Lance would always come up with new ways to get her to eat something. To help her feel better, he’d even learned how to make soup. She used to love the taste of it.
Nathalie lowered her gaze, pushing away those memories before they could take over.
“You go ahead and rest,” Freddy said. “I’ll bring it up soon.”
“Thanks, Freddy,” Nathalie replied, managing a gentle smile.
“No need to thank me. Just go get some rest.”
Nathalie opened the door and went inside. She saw her grandma, Adelaide, sitting on the living room sofa, looking both worried and restless.
“Grandma,” Nathalie called softly.
She walked over and hugged her, but quickly took a few steps back, leaving a good bit of space between them.
Adelaide looked surprised. She hadn’t even had a proper chance to look Nathalie over before she moved away again.
“Why are you standing so far away? Come closer so I can see you,” Adelaide said
Nathalie shook her head. “I can’t. I’ve got a cold and I don’t want you to catch it I’m already feeling better, so don’t worry I’ll just stay in my room for the next few days Once I’m all better, I’ll come keep you company.”
Without waiting for another word, Nathalie headed straight for her room
Adelaide stared after her, speechless
That girl…
Chapter 364
Leah quietly said, “Ms. Blair just doesn’t want you to get sick.”
Adelaide had only recently had surgery. If she caught something now, it could easily turn into something more serious.
Adelaide nodded, then asked, “Does she know what happened last night?”
Leah shook her head gently. “She seemed out of it when she got up this morning. I thought maybe she did, but once we talked, it was clear she had no idea.”
Leah paused, then asked, “Should we tell her? It wasn’t us who took her to the hospital last night.”
Adelaide thought it over. “Let’s not say anything. Since those two decided to break things off, bringing this up won’t help them. There’s no point. Once a relationship’s broken at the core, it’s nearly impossible to go back to how things were.”
Leah nodded. “Alright, I understand.”
Besides, the man who brought Nathalie to the hospital had specifically asked her not to mention anything. Leah wasn’t sure why, but as the housekeeper, it wasn’t her place to question it.
About an hour later, Freddy showed up at the apartment, holding a thermal soup container.
Leah answered the door and smiled when she saw him. “Oh, Freddy. Ms. Blair’s resting now.”
