Leah’s voice floated over, full of concern and worry. Nathalie blinked, pulled out of her thoughts, and turned toward her. “I’m feeling a lot better. Wait, why am I in the hospital?”
Her throat still hurt a bit when she spoke, but it was nothing compared to last night.
Leah explained, “You had a really high fever last night. We got scared and brought you here.” She glanced away, looking like she wanted to say something else but changed her mind.
Nathalie missed the hint and just said, “Thank you.”
Leah shook her head fast. “No, it wasn’t really my idea.”
“It was Grandma, wasn’t it?” Nathalie gave a small smile. “I bet she didn’t sleep at all last night. I just keep making her worry about me.”
Leah let out a quiet sigh, her expression turning complicated, but she didn’t add anything.

The phone rang forever. Just before it switched to voicemail, Nicol finally picked up

Lance’s voice dropped even colder. “I’m asking you to tell me.”
Nicol huffed. “Neely said I can listen to you when I feel like it. Right now, I don’t.” With that, he hung up.
Lance stared at his phone, silent and frustrated, before starting his car and driving toward

The Observatory. He’d only just pulled out onto the road when his phone started ringing again.
“Yeah?” he answered.
“Lance, we found some sign of Felice,” Aaron said, his voice all business.
“Where?” Lance replied immediately.
Aaron sent over an address. “This is pretty close to where Fabian lives. I’ve already got people watching him.”
“What’s Fabian been up to lately?” Lance asked, raising an eyebrow. He’d hardly heard anything about him.
Aaron replied, “He’s mostly stayed put at The Green Estate. Barely left.”
“Keep him under close watch,” Lance said, his voice even and cool.
