Chapter 410
Chapter 410
Staring at the icy resolve in her eyes, Lance’s mouth opened, but for a long, agonizing moment, he couldn’t force a single word past his throat.
Nathalie turned and pulled the door open.
A sudden tug caught the hem of her shirt. She glanced back to see his large fingers lightly gripping the fabric.
“My chest really is killing me. Can you help me change the dressing?”
His voice was incredibly low, his gaze downcast. The towering, dominant billionaire suddenly looked impossibly lonely and defeated.
Under the bright lights of the bedroom, he discarded his shirt. The bandages spanning his chest and back were indeed soaked with fresh blood, though it wasn’t a critical hemorrhage
Nathalie meticulously cleaned the dried blood from his skin before applying fresh ointment and wrapping the new gauze.
She didn’t utter a single syllable the entire time. The second she finished, she turned and walked straight out of the room.
Lance stared blankly at her retreating figure, a suffocating wave of despair crashing over his
dark eyes.
After a long nap, Adelaide’s emotional state had leveled out, but she looked noticeably older
and frailer.
Nathalie’s heart ached for her.
Winnie’s toxic venom had definitely taken a toll on the old woman.
Helping Adelaide to the dining table, Nathalie forced a bright tone. “I had the chef prepare your favorites, Grandmother. Let’s eat a lot tonight.”
Adelaide nodded with a soft smile. “Alright. By the way, where is Lance?”
“He’s resting in the guest room,” Nathalie replied casually.
Adelaide shot her a surprised look. “You’re letting him stay here?”
Nathalie’s eyes darted away momentarily. “I’m the reason his injuries flared up. It’s my responsibility to look after him until he recovers.”
Adelaide chuckled. “Well, go call him out for dinner then. Starving the poor man isn’t exactly taking care of him.”

“Fine.”
Nathalie was entirely reluctant, but she didn’t want to make a scene in front of her grandmother.
She walked over to the guest room and knocked lightly.
A heavy silence stretched through the hallway. Frowning, she pushed the door open, only to be met with pitch-black darkness. The heavy blackout curtains were drawn tightly shut, and she could barely make out the hazy silhouette of a man curled under the blankets.
“Lance?”
She stepped closer, calling his name again.
The man in the bed didn’t stir.
She closed the distance and gave his shoulder a firm shake, but he was completely
unresponsive.
A sudden spike of dread shot through her veins. She flicked on the bedside lamp and leaned over to inspect his face. His skin was flushed an unnatural, feverish red, his brows knitted together in obvious torment.
She pressed the back of her hand against his forehead. He was burning up!
He was running a massive fever!
Nathalie dashed out of the room to grab the first-aid kit.
Seeing her panicked state, Adelaide asked, “What’s wrong?”/
“He passed out from a fever. I tried waking him, but he’s completely out,” Nathalie explained as she grabbed a thermometer and rushed back in.
Alarmed, Adelaide followed her. Nathalie slipped the thermometer into place to check his
