Chapter 416

True to her word, Lance didn’t take another bite. Nathalie watched him for a second before saying, “The doctor will be in shortly for a final check. If everything looks good, you’ll be discharged.”

“Mm.”

The man grunted, already pulling out his phone to check his messages.

As Nathalie packed away their things, her phone rang. It was a call from Leda.

“Hello, Grandma?”

Leda asked, her voice laced with concern. “How is everything?”

Nathalie assured her. “He’s fine now. He’ll be discharged today.”

Leda let out a sigh of relief. “That’s good to hear. I just had to check in.”

“Don’t worry about us,” Nathalie said softly. “Just make sure you rest and eat well.”

“Oh, don’t fuss over me. I have Opal and Karan here. I’m perfectly fine,” Leda chuckled warmly.

Nathalie agreed and hung up.

The doctor arrived, gave Lance a final once-over, and confirmed he was cleared to leave. He began listing off a few post-care instructions.

“Wait.”

Lance suddenly interrupted.

The doctor looked at him in confusion.

Lance turned his gaze to Nathalie. “Come here.”

Nathalie looked at him suspiciously. “What is it?”

She walked over and stood by the edge of the bed.

Lance looked back at the doctor. “Tell her that my stitches tore because of her.”

Nathalie’s face went completely blank.

every detail.

Leaning back against the pillows, Lance watched her serious expression, feeling a soft warmth bloom in his chest.

After handling the discharge paperwork, they drove straight back to Lumina Grand.

Nathalie mentioned she wanted to swing by The Observatory first. Lance chimed in, “I’ll come with you. What if something happens to you on the way?”

Nathalie frowned. “I just want to visit Grandma.”

Lance suggested, “Why don’t we just move her in with us? The house here is much bigger

Nathalie went completely silent.

Move her in? What would that look like?

They had already signed the divorce papers. Once this mess was over, they would sever ties completely.

What if her grandmother misunderstood their relationship?

Nathalie looked at him and changed the subject. “Any news today?”

Lance closed his eyes and leaned back. “I just got out of the hospital. How would I know?”

Nathalie glared at him.

Her face turned icy. She knew he was lying to her again.

When the car pulled up to Lumina Grand, she got out and marched inside without a word.

Lance watched her retreating figure, noticing the clear tension in her shoulders.

He spoke in a slow, deliberate drawl. “In three days, you’re coming with me to meet

someone.”

“I’m not going,” Nathalie rejected him without missing a beat. “We already signed the papers. I have no obligation to play arm candy at some boring party.”

Lance replied smoothly, “This person might know who hired the hit on you. Are you sure you don’t want to go?”

Nathalie stopped dead in her tracks. She turned around, her clear eyes filled with blatant

picion. “Are you messing with me?”

“W vould I lie to you?” Lance closed the distance between them. “Lying to you once just push you further away, and that’s the last thing I want.”
