Chapter 415
Chapter 415
“Nathalie, I brought breakfast…”
Sophia’s cheerful voice floated in as she pushed open the hospital door.
But the moment she took in the scene inside, she froze.
Lance was lying on one side of the bed, while the covers on the other side were thrown back leaving a clear indentation of where someone had slept.
Nathalie’s hair and clothes were slightly rumpled, and she was still awkwardly smoothing down her shirt.
Anyone walking into this would immediately jump to conclusions.
Sophia’s grip on the plastic bags tightened, her eyes dropping to the floor in sudden awkwardness.
Didn’t Nathalie say he was just a friend?
Then why were they sleeping in the same bed?
Did they do something last night…?
A sudden, crushing wave of sadness washed over Sophia.
“Who are you?”
Lance demanded, spotting the girl who had just barged in. His sharp brows knitted together in displeasure, and he pulled the blankets up to cover himself completely.
Nathalie finally snapped out of her daze. “She’s the caregiver I hired. Her name is Sophia.”
Sophia kept a death grip on the plastic bags and gave a stiff nod. “Hello.”
Lance shifted his gaze to Nathalie, his dark eyes gleaming with a mocking, predatory light. “You’re supposed to be taking care of me, yet you got lazy and hired a caregiver? Is that how you treat a patient?”
Nathalie felt a twinge of guilt. She had definitely taken the easy way out on this one.
“I just wanted an extra set of hands to run errands and help out.”
Lance scoffed, making it perfectly clear he didn’t buy a word of her excuse.
‘e turned his cold gaze back to Sophia. “You’re fired. Get out.”
hia went pale, instinctively looking to Nathalie for help. “Nathalie…”

She turned to Sophia and spoke gently. “Thank you for bringing breakfast He’s being discharged today anyway, so we won’t be needing a caregiver anymore
Sophia bit her lip hard. “I understand.”
She handed the breakfast bags to Nathalie and mumbled, “I’ll get going, then.”
“Alright. Have a safe trip back.”
Sophia left, looking utterly defeated.
Standing out in the hospital hallway, her face fell into an expression of sheer disappointment
Her budding romance had been crushed before it even had a chance to start.

Lance sat up and asked coolly, “You two seem close. How did you meet?”
Nathalie unpacked the breakfast and replied without looking at him, “None of your business.
Lance suddenly grabbed her wrist and yanked her right up to his chest. His dark eyes bore into hers, cold and serious. “Nathalie, don’t forget the situation you’re in right now. You just blindly trust anyone who wanders into your life. What if she’s working for someone? What if she has an ulterior motive? Can you even tell the difference?”
The sudden proximity caught her off guard. Nathalie’s hands instinctively pressed flat against his chest. Hearing his rapid-fire warning, she pressed her lips together and said, “I get it.”
