The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 432

Chapter 432

“Of course I’ll go with you,” Nathalie said softly, having no intention of letting her face this alone.

Damaris wiped her face again. “Give me a second to get ready.”

“Take your time.”

When Damaris emerged from her room, she had changed her clothes and was sporting a baseball cap pulled low and a surgical mask covering half her face.

Nathalie blinked in surprise. “What’s with the getup?”

“I don’t want to run into anyone I know at the hospital,” Damaris muttered. “If word gets back to my mom, I am so dead.”

The mention of it sparked Nathalie’s curiosity. “Why is your family so obsessed with setting you up on blind dates?”

Damaris sighed heavily. “I have no idea. I’ve fought them on it, but it never works.”

The two chatted as they walked out of the apartment complex. Nathalie’s car was waiting at the entrance, with the bodyguard ready at the wheel.

“To the hospital,” Nathalie instructed as they slid into the backseat.

The bodyguard immediately looked back, concern etching his features. “Is everything alright,

ma’am?”

“My friend isn’t feeling well. We’re just going for a checkup.”

Satisfied, the two men relaxed. As the car pulled into traffic, Damaris leaned close to Nathalie, dropping her voice to a whisper. “Are these guys working for Lance?”

“Yeah.”

Damaris’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What the hell? Aren’t you two getting a divorce? Why are you letting his people hang around you?”

“A lot has happened recently,” Nathalie explained quietly. “We made a deal, and as part of it, he assigned people to protect me.”

Damaris gasped dramatically. “A deal? Is it the kind of deal I’m thinking of?”

Nathalie couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t even want to know what goes on in that head of yours, but stop overthinking it. It’s nothing crazy.”

“Oh, come on, it’s totally a trope! He definitely threw a massive amount of cash at you for a forbidden romance…” Damaris trailed off, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Nathalie shot her a exasperated look. “You read way too many romance novels.

Damaris sighed, “Well, he’s still a bastard. Manipulating you like this-it’s so unmanly.”

Nathalie lowered her gaze, choosing not to continue the conversation.

When they arrived at the hospital, they headed straight for the gynecology department. What they didn’t expect was to run into Bagot.

He was standing in the hallway, trying to comfort a young woman who was crying hysterically.

Damaris stepped out of the examination room and locked eyes with him instantly.

Bagot frowned and marched right over. “What are you doing in a place like this?”

Damaris crossed her arms, glaring at him. “Is it any of your business?”

She shot a disdainful look toward the weeping girl. “You should worry about yourself. Your little girlfriend over there looks like she needs you.”

Bagot’s frown deepened. “There’s nothing going on between us. But you-why are you here? Are you pregnant?”
