The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 433

Chapter 433

Mind your own business!” Damaris snapped, wrenching her arm out of his grip and storming off down the hall.

“You-”

Bagot stood frozen, staring blankly at her retreating figure. He spun around to look at Nathalie, his voice tight. “Is she actually pregnant?”

Nathalie gave him a faint, unreadable smile. “And how does that concern you?”

“-”

Bagot opened his mouth, but couldn’t form a single coherent word.

Bagot, what am I supposed to do?” The crying girl walked over, her face streaked with tears and mascara.

Bagot dragged a hand down his face, his patience entirely shot. “I told you to be careful, and you didn’t listen. What do you want me to say? Are you keeping it or not?”

The girl flinched at his harsh tone and shook her head weakly. “I don’t know.”

Bagot let out a frustrated breath. “I’m just your cousin. Not your boyfriend, and not your parents. I have no right to make this decision for you. Figure it out yourself.”

Nathalie caught up with Damaris a few corridors down. Seeing the distant, troubled look on her friend’s face, Nathalie paused. “Hey. You okay?”

Damaris turned to her, biting her lower lip. “Nathalie, I feel so lost right now.”

Nathalie squeezed her hand reassuringly. “It’s okay. Just take it one step at a time. Let’s go get your injection first.”

“Yeah.”

Damaris remained distracted the rest of the visit. After running the tests, taking the pill, and getting her shot, the two of them finally left the hospital.

Back at Fairview Estates, Nathalie pulled Damaris onto the couch. “Don’t think about anything else for the rest of the day. I’m staying over tonight.”

Damaris hugged her tightly. “You’re the best.”

Nathalie ordered takeout-all of Damaris’s favorites-and they spent the evening eating and watching movies. The distraction worked, and the lively spark gradually returned to Damaris’s eyes.

But right at eight o’clock, Nathalie’s phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and ignored it.

“Is it Lance?” Damaris asked.

“Yeah.”

Damaris sat up, suddenly energized. “Let me answer it!”

Nathalie looked at her skeptically. “What are you going to say?”

Damaris let out a wicked laugh. “Whatever pisses him off the most, obviously.”

“Be my guest.” Nathalie leaned back against the cushions, ready for the show.

Damaris cleared her throat and accepted the call. “Hello? Who’s this?”
