Damaris froze, instinctively looking to Nathalie for help.

Nathalie frowned at Lance. He looked entirely too comfortable, completely settled in. He wasn’t bluffing.

She lowered her gaze, exhaling a heavy breath. “I’ll help you make the bed.”

She still didn’t have a clear read on his game or what he ultimately wanted from/this situat wasn’t the right time to burn bridges.

Damaris’s face lost all its color. Her knuckles turned white as she gripped the bedsheets.

But… what’s done is done. Why can’t he just let it go? Why is he looking for me?”

Nathalie frowned. “We’re in someone else’s home. Have some decency.”

Lance shrugged the shirt off and sat on the edge of the bed. “I haven’t even done anything yet. What’s there to be decent about?”

Nathalie washed her hands, walked over, and prepared to change his dressing.

She intentionally positioned herself to his side, but Lance casually reached out, grabbed her waist, and pulled her to stand directly between his parted thighs.

His large hands settled firmly on her hips, his fingers tracing slow, deliberate circles against

her skin.

Nathalie stiffened. “Do you want your medicine applied or not?”

Lance ignored the question. “You assuming I’m always scheming against you… I don’t like it.”

Nathalie gripped the cotton swab tighter. “I’m just speaking from experience.”

He looked up at her cold, guarded face. “I never manipulated you in the past.”

Ha…”

Nathalie scoffed softly. “Do you honestly expect me to believe that? If you never manipulated me, why did you refuse to tell me I saved the wrong person back then? Why did you hide the truth and watch me spiral out of my mind? Did you find it entertaining?”

The air shifted instantly. The grip on her hips tightened until it almost hurt. A dangerous shadow crossed Lance’s dark eyes.

His voice dropped to a low, lethal register. “When you rushed in to save someone that day, Nathalie… was it because you knew I was in danger? Or was it because of someone else?”
