The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 438

Chapter 438

Nathalie’s face drained of color as sheer terror gripped her. She scrambled out of bed. “Coughing up blood? Did she eat something bad?”

Karan sounded frantic, her voice trembling. “No! When she got home yesterday, she said she had no appetite. She just drank a bowl of soup and went straight to bed…”

A dizzying wave of panic washed over Nathalie. She gripped the edge of the bedframe to steady herself, squeezing her eyes shut. “Call an ambulance immediately. I’m on my way.

“O-okay, right away!”

Nathalie hung up and frantically began throwing on her clothes.

Damaris rubbed her eyes sleepily. “Nathalie? What’s going on?”

Nathalie tied her hair back with shaking hands. “It’s my grandmother. Something happened. have to go to the hospital.”

“What?!”

Damaris vaulted out of bed instantly. “I’m coming with you!”

The two of them rushed out of the bedroom, nearly colliding with Lance, who was walking out of the guest room holding a large paper bag.

“What happened?”

Lance took one look at them, his gaze immediately locking onto Nathalie’s panicked face. “My grandmother is in the hospital!” Her voice cracked, betraying her fear.

Lance dropped the bag onto a side table. “I’ll drive you.”

He pulled out his phone and dialed his security detail as he led the way out. By the time they reached the ground floor, the SUV was already idling at the curb.

Damaris sat in the backseat, clutching Nathalie’s hand tightly. “Don’t panic. Maybe it’s just severe food poisoning. She’s going to be okay…”

Nathalie pressed her lips into a thin, bloodless line. A dark, suffocating sense of dread had settled heavily in her chest.

When they arrived at the ER, Karan was waiting in the hall. “They took her in for a scan.”

Nathalie forced herself to stay rational. “Did you notice anything unusual about her when she came home yesterday?”

Karan thought hard. “Just that she seemed really distracted. Nothing else stood out.” Nathalie pulled out her phone and called Nicol. The second he answered, she demanded,

Chapter 438

“Did you keep eyes on my grandmother the entire time yesterday?”

Nicol hesitated. “I stepped away to use the restroom once. It was two minutes, tops. I came right back, and nothing looked out of the ordinary.”

“When they were at the hospital earlier,” Nicol explained, recounting the events. “Camilla was thrilled to see her. They talked for a long time. The old lady wasn’t super responsive, but she listened.”

He paused, realizing the severity of the situation. “But… around lunchtime, your grandmother tried to leave. Camilla insisted she stay for lunch. She started crying, playing the victim, and your grandmother finally caved. They ate together.”

Nathalie gripped her phone so tightly her knuckles turned white. A horrifying theory was taking shape in her mind.

Nicol’s voice wavered. “Ms. Blair, did something happen?”

Nathalie closed her eyes. “My grandmother collapsed and vomited blood. She’s in emergency surgery right now.”
