Chapter 443
Lance stared at her with deep, unreadable eyes. “Did you forget what I told you before? Tooked into his background. He’s highly suspicious. How can you still think this is a coincidence?”
Nathalie looked away, remaining silent for a long time.
“Jasper, did you take the picture?”
Lance turned his attention to the little boy, his voice calm.
Jasper nodded. “Yeah, I took a bunch. Look, Uncle Lance.”
He ran over and handed the phone back.
Lance scrolled through the photos, a faint smile pulling at his lips. “Not bad. Your reward is no homework tonight.”
“I can do my homework.” Jasper replied earnestly. “Can I have a different reward?”
Lance looked at him in surprise. “What do you want?”
Jasper looked a little shy, but he spoke up anyway. “I want you to come home every day.”
The little boy had friends to play with at kindergarten, but whenever he returned to the estate, there was no one but the maids and the butler.
He still missed his mother, but no matter how much he missed her, she never showed up. So, he started missing his uncle instead, because at least his uncle actually came back.
Seeing the anxious look in the child’s eyes, Lance’s heart softened. “Alright. I promise.”
Jasper immediately beamed with joy. But then he thought of something else and looked timidly at Nathalie. “Will you and Auntie come home together?”
Chapter 443
Nathalie looked at him plainly. “You don’t like me. There’s no need to pretend just to please me.”
“That’s not true.” Jasper shook his head. “I don’t dislike you.”
He blinked. “You’re the one who dislikes me.”
Nathalie was speechless.
She gave him a complicated look.
Lance chimed in. “Even a kid can tell. That means your acting needs work.”
Nathalie ignored him and asked, “Do you have any other plans? Are we just going to sit here and wait?”
“Ask him out,” Lance suggested. “Ask him for help directly.”
Nathalie hesitated. “Will that even work?”
Lance replied casually, “We’ll know once we try.”
A dark glint flashed in his eyes. This test would prove once and for all if Fabian was the one behind it.
Nathalie stood up, walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, and dialed Fabian’s number.
It rang three times before he picked up.
“Hey, Nathalie.”
Ľ
Nathalie made her voice sound heavy and distressed. “Fabian, something terrible happened.”
Fabian’s tone immediately turned anxious. “What’s wrong? Did Lance hurt you again? What did he do?”
Hearing his reaction, a flicker of doubt crossed Nathalie’s mind. She suddenly realized that every time she saw Fabian, the conversation always seemed to revolve around how Lance was hurting her.
