The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 468

Chapter 468

Nathalie’s body remained rigid.

Knowing him, she didn’t believe for a second that he just wanted to hold her and sleep.

But as the minutes ticked by, the slow, rhythmic sound of his breathing filled the quiet room, and her tense muscles finally began to relax.

A flicker of surprise crossed her mind, but she was too exhausted to dwell on it. She had thought she was wide awake, but wrapped in the quiet darkness and the steady cadence of his breathing, exhaustion quickly pulled her under.

Late into the night, listening to the girl’s soft, even breathing, the man behind her opened his eyes. He let out a silent breath and pressed a gentle kiss against her cheek.

In the dark, his gaze was filled with overwhelming tenderness and fierce devotion.

He had tried to walk away. He really had.

But he simply couldn’t let her go. From now on, whatever ruthless tactics it took, he was going to bind her to him. They were going to be together, even in death.

The next morning.

Nathalie fluttered her eyes open, immediately feeling a large hand trailing over her curves. She grabbed his wrist instantly.

“I thought you said you were just going to sleep,” she said, her voice husky with sleep.

Lance rested his face against the crook of her neck, letting out a low, vibrating chuckle. “You slept very well.”

Nathalle pressed her lips together and threw off the covers to get up.

Lance pinned her down easily. “Once?”

A faint blush crept over her luminous skin. She frowned. “I don’t…”

He shifted his weight over her, his voice dropping to a rough, seductive gravel. “Ten times a month. Did you forget? We’re only at two.”

Nathalie was speechless.

It was the terms of their deal; she couldn’t exactly say no.

She squeezed her eyes shut and turned her face away. “Just get it over with.”

Lance raised an eyebrow, suddenly slipping entirely under the covers.

When Nathalie realized exactly what he was doing, she kicked out in sheer panic, but his hand clamped firmly around her ankle.

His scorching breath ghosted over her/sensitive skin. “This is only fun if we both enjoy it,” he murmured darkly.

Nathalie’s face burned crimson.

An hour later.

They showered and headed downstairs. Breakfast was waiting on the table, but Nathalie kept a stony expression the entire time.

to the hospital

Lance made a stop at the main estate to check on Jasper. The toddler was still being carried around by a nanny. The moment Jasper saw him, he reached his little arms out.

Lance took the boy into his arms. Noting the child’s pale, exhausted face, his eyes darkened. “Did Jasper sleep at all last night?” he asked softly.

“He did sleep, but he woke up crying several times in the middle of the night,” the nanny replied.

“Uncle Lance, I want Mommy…”
