Chapter 469

Chapter 469

Jasper caught a glimpse of the woman’s face through the window. It was Felice James!

Lance instantly pulled the little boy against his chest, shielding his view. “You saw wrong. That wasn’t your mommy. She just looks like her.”

“No, it was Mommy! I want my Mommy! Waah, Mommy!”

Jasper completely melted down, thrashing wildly in Lance’s grip and desperately trying to claw his way back to the window.

“Jasper!”

Lance’s voice dropped into a sharp, commanding register, his gaze turning somber.

Jasper choked on a sob, his tear-filled eyes wide with unmistakable terror as he looked up at his uncle.

Lance’s expression instantly softened, his tone returning to a gentle calm. “That wasn’t your mommy, Jasper. It’s okay. Settle down.”

Jasper sniffled, his voice breaking. “But I want my Mommy.”

Lance frowned deeply, wrapping his arms around the boy to soothe him. It took a long time to calm him down, though the little boy kept throwing anxious glances toward the window.

Felice James, realizing she couldn’t get the car to stop and seeing the bodyguards charging toward her, turned and bolted.

She sprinted down a side street, leaped into a waiting van, and vanished without a trace.

When the security team reported the incident, Lance let out a cold scoff. “She simply doesn’t know when to quit. Track her down and deport her immediately.”

Nathalie swallowed the sharp ache in her throat. “Grandma, are you feeling any better today?”

Several seconds passed before the old woman replied, “I just have no energy. Getting old. I’m useless now.”

Nathalie lowered her eyes. From the moment her grandmother had woken up, she hadn’t mentioned Camilla once.

Did she genuinely not want to talk about it? Did she forget that her own daughter had played a part in poisoning her?

Or was she just blocking it out, hoping denial would make the betrayal hurt less?

Her heart shattered for this sweet, soft-hearted woman.

Nathalie asked gently, “The sun is beautiful today. Do you want to go for a quick walk outside?”

The old woman stared blankly out the window for what felt like an eternity before saying, “No. No energy. So tired.”

Nathalie stepped closer and gently took her hand. “Grandma, is there anything you want to tell me?”

The delay was excruciating as the old woman slowly turned her head. She studied Nathalie’s face intently, then slowly reached up to cup her
