The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 473

Chapter 473

Chapter 473

Nathalie hadn’t eaten much again that night. As soon as they returned to Lumina Grand, Lance headed straight for the kitchen.

Checking her phone, she saw a flood of messages from acquaintances checking in on her. Among them was a text from Freddy.

Freddy: [Nathalie, how are you holding up? I saw the news about the Blair Group. I hope it hasn’t affected you too much.]

Nathalie: [I’m hanging in there. I’m fine. Thanks for checking in, Freddy.]

Freddy: [Why so formal? Aren’t we friends?]

Freddy: [Maybe it’s just me, but things feel a bit distant between us lately. You haven’t been back to The Observatory in a long time.]

Freddy: [If I did something wrong, I hope you’ll tell me directly. I’d hate for here to be a misunderstanding.]

A misunderstanding? When she caught the man who tried to hurt her, he confessed clearly that Freddy was the one pulling the strings. And now he vas calling it a misunderstanding. After everything she’d been through, Nathalie couldn’t bring herself to trust anyone so easily anymore.

She carefully typed her response.

Nathalie: [No misunderstanding. I’ve just been busy taking care of my grandmother. She hasn’t been feeling well lately.}

Freddy: [Which hospital is she at? I’d love to visit her. She always liked chatting with me. Maybe some company would cheer her up?]

Nathalie: [She’s already been discharged. She wanted to go home, so I took her back.]

Freddy: [Ah, I see. What a shame I couldn’t be there to see her off.]

Nathalie: [There will be other times.]

Chapter 473

Freddy: True. I won’t bother you anymore tonight. Sleep well.]

Nathalie. [Goodnight]

She set the phone down, her mind racing as she planned her next move.

Knock, knock.

The sound pulled her from her thoughts. She opened her bedroom door and gave the man standing there a cool look. “A miracle. You actually know how to knock.”

Lance raised an eyebrow, his tone dry. “You’re awake, so of course I <nocked. I didn’t want to start another argument.”

What kind of twisted logic was that? Nathalie didn’t have the energy to fight. “What do you want?”

‘I’m hungry. Come downstairs and eat with me,” he said.

‘I don’t want to. I’m tired and I want to rest,” she replied.

‘Fine. Then I won’t eat either. We’ll just hang out here.” He stepped forward, pushing his way into the room.

Nathalie knew exactly where that would lead. She immediately planted her hands against his chest and shoved him back into the hallway. “Fine. Let’s go downstairs.”

Lance let her push him back, his gaze dropping to her small hands resting against his chest. A faint smirk touched his lips.

Downstairs in the dining room, two plates of egg fried rice sat on the table. It was a simple dish, but the golden grains of rice mixed with diced carrots, ham, and scallions smelled incredible.

Nathalie’s stomach gave an embarrassing rumble. She hesitated for a second before picking up her spoon.

Lance glanced at her. “Fabian still hasn’t talked. He says he wants to see you.”
