Chapter 472

Lance reached out instantly, catching her before she could fall.

“Are you okay?” Nathalie asked, her pulse spiking.

Her grandmother stared blankly for a moment, then shook her head. “I’m fine, I’m fine. Just a little weak from resting too long…” She offered Nathalie a reassuring smile.

Lowering her gaze, Nathalie gently supported her as they slowly paced the length of the hospital room. After just a few laps, the older woman was exhausted, her complexion growing pale.

‘Tired. So tired…”

Nathalie helped her back into bed, propping her against the pillows. “Is here anything you’d like to eat?”

Staring vacantly ahead, her grandmother’s eyes looked cloudy and lost. After a long pause, she murmured, “Noodles. Let’s have noodles.”

Okay,” Nathalie agreed.

agree!

Nathalie stiffened.

A faint, pleased smile tugged at the corner of Lance’s mouth.

But her grandmother wasn’t finished. “Since he won’t agree to it anyway, just make do for now. Once you find someone better, you can take him to

court.”

Nathalie couldn’t hold back a burst of laughter.

Lance’s smile vanished.

Wait, what? Shouldn’t she have waited until he left the room to say that? She was plotting his divorce right to his face!

A soft smile curved Nathalie’s lips. “Alright. I’ll listen to you.”

Her grandmother studied her face for a long moment before nodding. “Good. That’s good.”

When Nathalie returned with a bowl of chicken noodle soup, the older woman just stared at it. Suddenly, she mumbled, “Where’s the poached egg? The egg broke, floating everywhere… She seemed trapped in a distant memory, pointing at the bowl as she muttered to herself.

T

Nathalie didn’t understand at first. “It’s just regular chicken noodles. There’s no egg in this one.”

“There is. I’ve had it,” her grandmother insisted after a delay. “She didn’t know how to cook, but she insisted on making it for me. The egg went everywhere. Oh, she was so little, but she tried so hard…”
