The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 477

Chapter 477

She turned and left the underground facility. Only when the warm sunlight washed over her did she finally feel like she could breathe again.

Nathalie slowly exhaled a heavy breath and looked at the man beside her, who had remained completely silent. “Let’s go back.”

“Want to go inside and rest for a bit?” Lance asked, gesturing toward the

estate.

Nathalie glanced at the unfamiliar house. She had no desire to stay here.

“I want to go home.”

She started walking toward the car.

“Nathalie.” His deep, somber voice called out from behind her.

She paused and turned to look at him. “What is it?”

Lance’s dark eyes were heavy, fixed intently on her face. “If you had known from the beginning that the person you saved was my brother… would you still have come to me?”

She met his gaze with cool detachment. “If you had known from the beginning that Felice was the one who saved you, would you have accepted my confession?”

A soft breeze swept across the lawn, carrying their words into the quiet

air.

A faint, bitter smile touched Nathalie’s lips. “You never truly understood my heart, Lance. We really aren’t right for each other.”

She turned and kept walking.

“I would have.”

His voice rang out behind her, absolute and unwavering. “I would have.”

Chapter 477

Nathalle didn’t look back. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”

Lance closed the distance in a few long strides, grabbing her wrist. “It matters. Of course it matters. We were destined to be together. There are no ‘ifs’. The reason I asked.. is because I’m terrified. I’m terrified you’ll realize you loved the wrong person and never look at me again!”

He stared intensely into her eyes, every word slamming into her chest. ‘Because I’m scared, Nathalie.”

His grip on her wrist tightened slightly. “I know I went too far before. I was arrogant. I thought because you loved me, you wouldn’t blame me. I thought you’d stand by my side and shoulder those burdens with me. I was completely full of myself, and I know now that I was wrong. I know my thinking was incredibly naive. A relationship is between two people, and I never should have dragged you into my family’s mess…”

‘It took me a long time to understand all of that. I tried to let you go. I tried to give you the divorce you wanted. But Nathalie… living without you… it hurts right here. It hurts so much.”

He took her hand and pressed it flat against his chest, his voice cracking. ‘Even now, I don’t want a divorce.”

Beneath her palm, she could feel the violent, frantic pounding of his heart, hammering against his ribs as if validating every desperate word.

Nathalie’s eyelashes fluttered, and she spoke slowly. “We made a deal.”

Lance closed his eyes, a look of pure agony washing over his face. He bowed his head, his broad shoulders slumping as if carrying an unbearable weight. After a long moment, he finally released her hand.

She looked up at him. “We just aren’t right for each other.”

He turned his face away, forcing his tone back to a calm, hollow baseline. “Right. So once everything is over, you can do whatever you want. I won’t stop you.”
