The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 54

Daniel stared at Lance, eyes wide. “You got a vasectomy?”

Nathalie let out a biting laugh. “You guys seriously didn’t know? He actually went and got sterilized, just so he could take care of someone else’s kid. After what he did to me, how could I not hate him?”

Daniel’s hand shook as he pointed at Lance. “You… you’re out of your mind! How could you do something like that? If you just wanted to look after Jasper, fine, but why get a vasectomy? Don’t you want a child of your own?”

Leda looked just as shocked. “Lance, why would you do this?”

The whole room went quiet. Not even the servants dared breathe. Suddenly, a few of them were looking at Nathalie with something like sympathy in their eyes.

Lance’s gaze was sharp and cold, practically freezing the air around him as he stared at Nathalie.

She scanned the room, wiped her face with the back of her hand, and said, “If you don’t agree to a divorce, I’ll only get worse. Maybe one day I’ll just take Jasper away... or God knows, toss him out a window, or drown him in the river…”

“Divorce. You have to get divorced.” Leda’s voice was steady and hard. “If you don’t leave this woman, Lance, I don’t want you as my grandson anymore.”

The shock of Lance’s vasectomy faded in an instant. All anyone could think about were Nathalie’s threats. With the wild look in her eyes, nobody doubted she meant every word.

Leda wasn’t about to risk it. She still didn’t understand why Lance would choose to get sterilized, but what mattered was that Jasper was the Adams family’s only hope now. There was no way she’d let that boy fall into Nathalie’s hands.

Daniel’s expression grew darker. He glanced between Nathalie and Lance, then said heavily, “Fine, get divorced. My daughter married you and ended up like this. You even went ahead and got a vasectomy. How many more years of her life do you plan to waste?”

Both families were in total agreement.

Every pair of eyes focused on Lance.

He clenched his hands into fists, face tight, jaw set. He glared at Nathalie, his words raw and strained. “Is this really what you want?”

Daniel gave Nathalie a hard, disappointed look. “You’ve really crossed the line this time. What did that little boy ever do to you?”

Nathalie flicked her eyes at him. “Don’t you have your darling Felice to worry about?”

Daniel’s face fell. “You really are unbelievable,” he snapped, shaking his head as he turned away.

Soon, everyone had left. The living room was suddenly still and silent.

Nathalie walked slowly outside, each step heavy. Everything from tonight buzzed painfully in her head.

But she’d done it. Lance had finally agreed to the divorce.

So why did her heart feel like it was breaking all over again? She could barely stand, the ache in her chest so raw and sharp. She thought she was over all of it. Yet just saying the words had felt like someone stabbing her, again and again, straight through the heart.
