Nathalie flashed him a cynical, half-amused smile. "Your own insatiable appetite, or your nephew's wellbeing. What's it going to be, Lance?"
Having laid out her terms, she pushed his arms away and strutted out of the firing range without looking back.
A helpless, defeated smirk tugged at the corner of Lance's mouth as he followed her up to the main floor.
He immediately instructed the estate staff to convert one of the massive guest suites into a nursery, ordering a fleet of brand-new toys, designer clothes, and custom furniture.
Watching the endless stream of deliveries, Sophia tracked down Nathalie. "What's up with the nursery remodel? Are we having a kid move in?"
"Yeah," Nathalie hummed in agreement. "Lance's nephew is moving in with us permanently. If you have some free time, try to play with him a bit. The poor kid has had a rough life."
Sophia's eyes lit up. "Sure! I love kids."
Adelaide had also noticed the sudden influx of toddler-sized belongings. Nathalie sat her down and explained the situation.
The elderly woman's brow instantly furrowed. "Is it Felice's boy?"
Nathalie nodded gently, correcting her. "Grandma, she goes by Felice James now. Our family cut all ties with her."
Adelaide looked deeply concerned. "If you bring her child into your home, Nathalie... won't it just tear you apart?"
In her eyes, Felice was the architect of every tragedy Nathalie had faced. She had repeatedly destroyed Nathalie's life and severed the bond between her and her parents. To wake up every single day and look at the flesh and blood of her tormentor—how could she possibly find any peace?
"Grandma, Jasper is barely four years old. He's innocent in all of this," Nathalie said softly, taking Adelaide's warm, weathered hands into her own. "Besides, I've been thinking a lot about Jackson lately. He was an honorable man, and he was always incredibly kind to me. Out of respect for him, the least I can do is make sure his son is safe."
Adelaide sighed, a profound sadness in her eyes as she stroked Nathalie's hair. "You have too good a heart, my dear."
