As she finished speaking, a tear slipped from the corner of Adelaide's eye.
She reached up to wipe it away, sighing deeply before continuing, "So, Nathalie, I don't have any other thoughts about it. At the end of the day, we were mother and daughter, but that's as far as our connection goes. Just don't let me see her again."
Nathalie reached out to help wipe her tears, her heart aching with sorrow. She couldn't help but feel her grandmother was still far too kind.
No matter how much Camilla repented, poisoning her own mother was a fact. Dying a thousand times wouldn't be enough to pay for that!
If it weren't for Adelaide, Camilla wouldn't even exist.
Yet she had helped an outsider bully her own mother.
Adelaide's dry palm gently stroked Nathalie's hair as she spoke in a slow, soothing tone. "Nathalie, they raised you. No matter how many mistakes they've made, for the sake of the years they spent bringing you up, promise me you won't do anything else to them. Okay?"
The Blair Group was already bankrupt, and Daniel and Camilla's lives were nowhere near what they used to be. Right now, it wouldn't take much effort—just a little maneuvering—to make the rest of their lives a living hell.
But Adelaide didn't want Nathalie to go down that path.
Not seeing them again was enough.
She wanted Nathalie to keep a clear, unburdened heart, free from the blinding fog of revenge.
Nathalie lowered her eyes and nodded. "Okay. I'll listen to you."
Her grandmother had always been so good to her; of course, she would listen. Besides, she had no desire to ever lay eyes on Daniel or Camilla again. It was best if they completely vanished from her life.
"I really am a bit tired this time," Adelaide sighed. "Talking so much wore me out. I think I'll sleep for a while."
"Okay, I'll stay right here with you," Nathalie agreed.
"Oh, and one more thing," Adelaide said, suddenly grabbing her hand just as she lay down. "Don't blame Sophia. That girl meant well; she just didn't understand the situation. I actually quite like her. Let her keep keeping me company."
Hearing this, Nathalie offered a soft smile. "I know. I don't blame her."
