A look of pure astonishment crossed Adelaide's face. She never expected them to make such a reckless bet.
She couldn't help but look at Nathalie, only to find her granddaughter staring blankly, looking just as caught off guard.
Nathalie recovered quickly, nodding in agreement. "Right. It's exactly as he said. So, Grandma, you don't need to worry about us. We'll handle it. Just relax and stay here. Don't let it stress you out. I paid for the renovations on this place, so even if we do divorce, half of it belongs to me."
When they had first gotten married, they picked out the house together. He paid for it, and she, wanting to design their perfect love nest, completely took over the remodeling. She hadn't even let him see it until everything was finished.
She had moved into this place with him, her heart brimming with hope for their future.
But now, she felt absolutely nothing for these walls.
Adelaide seemed to buy their excuse, nodding slowly without pushing the subject further.
Nathalie spoke up again. "And please stop meddling in other people's love lives. Sophia is just here to help out. If you keep nagging her about dating, what if she gets annoyed but is too polite to say anything?"
Adelaide laughed warmly. "Sophia wouldn't do that. She's a sweet, kindhearted girl."
Nathalie just wanted to stop the matchmaking. Young people these days absolutely despised being pushed into relationships.
"I'm feeling a bit tired. I think I'll take a nap."
Adelaide stifled a yawn, practically shooing them out.
Nathalie nodded. "Alright, we'll leave you to it."
"Mhm."
They walked out in silence.
Once in the hallway, she turned to Lance, a complicated look in her eyes.
A faint, arrogant smirk tugged at the corner of Lance's lips. "Moved? Don't know how to thank me? It's simple. Give me a kiss, and we'll call it even."
Lance's tone turned even more glacial. "I don't have to talk to you at all. Bagot has been tearing the world apart looking for Damaris. I know exactly where you're hiding."
"You son of a bitch!"
The man on the line was none other than Lawrence.
Lawrence despised Lance, but the billionaire provided immense leverage and cover. He had no choice but to play ball.
It was a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Lance agreed to keep Lawrence's location a secret, and in return, Lawrence fed him intel on Sylvie Winter.
Lawrence took several deep breaths to rein in his temper before finally speaking. "Sylvie Winter is likely heading to Cabinda soon. You'd better brace yourself."
Hearing that, Lance's gaze turned dangerously grim.
