"Grandma, what's wrong?" Nathalie hurried forward, asking with concern.
The old woman paused for a moment, waving her hand dismissively. "It's nothing. My throat is just a little dry. Some water will help."
She took the glass Sophia handed her, taking a few sips, and her voice immediately sounded much clearer.
"All better now."
Nathalie breathed a sigh of relief. "Glad to hear it."
She sat down beside them, looking curious. "What were you two talking about?"
She noticed the shift in the atmosphere. Sophia looked incredibly unnatural.
Adelaide offered a gentle smile. "I was just asking if she had a boyfriend and if she wanted me to set her up. She immediately got all shy and nervous."
She turned her attention back to Sophia. "Sophia, dear, you're still young. You should go out and see the world. There are plenty of great men out there. If you're open to it, I can introduce you to some. I know plenty of handsome, ambitious young men."
A flash of guilt crossed Sophia's eyes. She lowered her gaze, feigning shyness. "Grandma, I'm still young. There's no rush."
Adelaide laughed. "You always say there's no rush, but time waits for no one. Finding someone who truly cares for you and treats you well is the most important thing."
Nathalie found the whole exchange amusing. "Grandma, since when did you start playing matchmaker? How old is Sophia? She's not even twenty. There's really no rush."
Adelaide leaned back, chuckling softly. "I'm getting old. I just like seeing you young folks paired off and happily in love."
She reached out and took Nathalie's hand. "Speaking of which, have you and Lance decided to call off the divorce?"
Nathalie's eyes flickered. "Why bring this up all of a sudden?"
The old woman sighed. "Living here all this time, I can see he's a deeply responsible man. He stepped up to care for his brother's child, and he's clearly trying hard to win you back and make up for the pain he caused. If you still have feelings for him, why not give him another chance? After all, you two were together for so many years. It'll be hard to find someone else who makes your heart flutter like that."
Nathalie felt a wave of helplessness wash over her.
"Grandma, is marriage an absolute requirement? I've already been through it once. I'm not looking forward to doing it again. I just want to live a free, independent life."
