The previous misunderstanding had been cleared up, and he hadn't been the one behind the incident, yet she remained just as guarded against him.
This was unacceptable to him.
He constantly wanted to ask her what she was so afraid of.
He would never hurt her.
Nathalie pressed her lips together, her long eyelashes fluttering. After a long silence, she lifted her gaze to meet his. "Freddy, too much has happened around me. Do you remember Fabian?"
Freddy thought for a moment and nodded. "Yes, I recall you two were friends."
A bitter smile touched Nathalie's lips. "He tried to kill me. I barely survived."
Freddy's pupils contracted in shock, entirely unprepared for such a dark revelation.
"Because of that, I can't easily trust anyone right now," Nathalie continued. "I only have one life. If something unexpected happens..."
She didn't finish the sentence, but the implication was clear to both of them.
Freddy's expression grew deeply conflicted, his tone laced with heavy remorse. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know the full story."
No wonder she was so defensive. After surviving something like that, she was like a startled bird, jumping at every shadow.
"It's my fault. I shouldn't have pushed you," Freddy admitted, realizing his mistake.
Nathalie took a sip of her coffee. "I'm glad you understand. So, Freddy, there's no need for us to meet up often in the future."
Right now, she only wanted to focus on her training and wait for the perfect moment to track down Sylvie Winter.
She was going to return every ounce of fear and danger Sylvie had inflicted upon her!
A cold, determined glint flashed in Nathalie's eyes.
"Yes, I'm here."
Hanging up, Nathalie paid the bill and headed to the restaurant next door. But the moment she walked in, she was hit by a wave of chaotic shouting.
"You little bitch! You said you didn't have any money! How dare you show your face in a high-end place like this? Do you have any idea how much it costs to eat here? Who brought you in? Are you someone's mistress?!"
The vulgar curses echoed through the dining room. Nathalie saw a man aggressively grabbing Sophia's arm, interrogating her with a vicious glare.
"Who's your sugar daddy? How much did he give you? Hand over the cash!"
The man looked completely unhinged, like he wanted to devour her alive.
Sophia was terrified, struggling desperately against his grip. "Let me go! Get off me!"
The other diners watched the scene with cold detachment, some even visibly annoyed by the disturbance.
