The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 60

Leda stared, eyes wide, completely lost for words. “You… you…” Her voice trembled, but nothing else came out.

Carl and Madonna had always done things their own way. After Jackson’s accident, they joined Doctors Without Borders. Leda had begged them not to go, but they barely gave her a second thought and just left.

Now they had come back, acting like they could just stop the divorce with a few words. It made Leda so angry that her vision blurred. She gripped the sofa tightly, trying not to explode. “Unbelievable… all of you are unbelievable…”

In the study, the tension was heavy. Carl faced Lance, his tone ice-cold. “Tell me about the vasectomy.”

Lance dropped into a chair and rubbed his temples like he had a headache that wouldn’t quit. “I saw how much Felice suffered giving birth. I just didn’t want Nathalie to go through that kind of pain.”

Carl scoffed, pushing away from the desk. “Do you hear yourself? Does that even make sense to you? Did you ever ask Nathalie if she wanted kids of her own?”

Lance’s hand dropped to his lap, his eyes staring at the floor. “Once, she said she wanted it to just be the two of us.”

“So you assumed she didn’t want a family?” Carl’s frustration came out in a sharp exhale. “There’s a difference between not wanting kids and not being able to have any. If you were worried, you could’ve used any other method. Why go straight to getting a vasectomy? And be honest… do you have feelings for Felice?”

Lance looked up, sharp and clear. “Dad, Felice is my sister-in-law.”

Carl studied his son for a moment, eyebrows pinched together. “Then keep it that way. Don’t let things get blurry.”

Lance let out a dry, bitter laugh and stood up. “What about Jasper? You and Mom left without saying a word. Felice was here alone, pregnant with Jackson’s child… his only child. After that, the only people left in the Adams family were me and Grandma. Who else was going to take care of them?”

He paced, trying to keep his emotions steady. “We couldn’t just take Jasper from her. After losing his dad, how could he survive without his mom?”

Nathalie looked up, hopeful but unsure. “Does that mean you agree?”

Madonna nodded, but there was a catch. “I agree. But you can’t go through with the divorce until I find him a new wife.”

Nathalie’s face paled. “Why?”

Madonna’s brows knitted as she explained, “Lance and Felice can’t keep things so unclear. Our family can’t be the subject of a scandal like that.”

Nathalie’s fingers curled into fists. “You could find him someone later, after the divorce. What difference does it make?”

“It’s not the same.” Madonna shook her head, stubborn. “I have a feeling Felice isn’t as innocent as she seems. Lance cares so much about Jasper. After the divorce, he’d go see the boy all the time, and if something did happen… The Adams brothers both ending up with the same woman? That would be a disaster.”
