"You really don't know when to shut up, do you? Keep spitting garbage and I'll cut your tongue out myself," Nicol growled, his face darkening with rage.
Felice just glared right back at him, a mocking sneer on her pale lips. "I know exactly what the antidote is. But if I tell you, are you still going to kill me?"
Nicol's expression turned murderous.
Just then, Nathalie tugged on Nicol's sleeve.
He looked down. "What is it, Nathalie?"
Without a second glance at the woman bleeding out on the bed, Nathalie turned and walked out of the room. Confused but loyal, Nicol followed her into the hallway.
Standing outside the door, Nathalie quickly typed on her phone and showed it to him.
*[She doesn't know what the antidote is.]*
Nicol blinked in surprise. "How can you be so sure?"
Nathalie's fingers flew across the keyboard. *[If she actually had the cure, she wouldn't be acting like this.]*
Nicol processed the logic and nodded in agreement. Felice was greedy and manipulative. If she held the key to saving Lance's life, she would be aggressively negotiating terms and demanding her freedom, not playing mind games.
Nathalie turned and headed back toward her own room.
Nicol caught up with her. "If she's completely useless to us, what do you want to do with her?"
Nathalie didn't respond until she was sitting back on her bed. She typed a single, cold directive.
*[Don't let her wound heal. Barely feed her. Let her live in agony.]*
Nicol read the screen and nodded grimly. "A bullet to the head is way too good for someone like her. Making her beg for death is exactly what she deserves."
With that settled, he left the room to give the orders.
"He's still critical," Aaron reported, his face incredibly tense. "He has two different neurotoxins in his system. Whether he pulls through or not is entirely up to him now."
Nathalie pressed her lips into a tight line. She stood rigidly by the ICU window, her slender frame trembling slightly.
"Please don't blame yourself," Aaron said gently. "This isn't your fault. It's Felice's, and the people pulling her strings."
Nathalie didn't react. Seeing her shut down, Aaron didn't know how else to comfort her.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed. She pulled it out and felt the blood drain from her face. It was another video call from Adelaide.
She panicked and immediately declined it, her heart racing. Adelaide was clearly worried sick.
*[Grandma, I'm out right now. What's wrong?]* she quickly texted.
Adelaide's voice note popped up instantly. "Pick up the video call! If the signal lags, so be it. I just need to see your face."
