The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 629

Nathalie's anxiety spiked.

If she kept making excuses, Adelaide would definitely know something was horribly wrong.

What was she supposed to do?

Noticing her panic, Aaron stepped closer. "What's wrong, Mrs. Adams?"

Nathalie played Adelaide's voice message for him.

Aaron thought for a second before a sly grin spread across his face. "That's easy."

He quickly laid out a foolproof plan.

Nathalie listened, her eyes widening. She gave him an enthusiastic nod. It was brilliant.

She quickly typed a response to Adelaide: *[Give me a second to find a better spot for the signal.]*

Aaron led her out to the hospital's courtyard, finding a plain brick wall to use as a neutral background. Nathalie took a deep breath, steadied her hands, and dialed the video call.

Adelaide answered almost instantly. Her wrinkled face filled the screen, her sharp eyes scanning Nathalie with intense relief.

"Nathalie! Where have you been exploring these past few days?" Adelaide's warm voice came through the speaker.

Taking her cue, Nathalie executed Aaron's plan. She started moving her head and blinking in rigid, jerky motions, flawlessly mimicking a freezing video stream. She moved her mouth as if talking, stopping abruptly and freezing in awkward positions.

Adelaide squinted at the screen. "What's going on? Say something!"

On Adelaide's end, it legitimately looked like Nathalie's video feed was severely glitching—freezing for seconds at a time before jumping to a new frame.

Karan, the caretaker standing beside Adelaide, leaned in. "It looks like the network connection on her end is just terrible, ma'am. The video keeps stalling out."

"Is that it?" Adelaide muttered, looking from Karan back to the phone. "Nathalie? Can you hear me?"

Aaron chuckled. "Working for Boss means you learn to put out fires on the fly. I've been well-trained."

Nathalie smiled, and the two of them headed back into the hospital.

The moment they stepped off the elevator, a bodyguard sprinted up to them. "Mrs. Adams! Aaron! Boss is awake!"

Aaron's face lit up. "Seriously? What's his status?"

"They're running scans right now. If everything is clear, he's getting moved to a regular room," the guard reported.

Aaron turned to Nathalie, beaming. "See? I told you not to worry. He's indestructible."

Nathalie felt like she was in a daze. She followed Aaron blindly to the doctor's office. The wait while Lance underwent his tests felt like an absolute eternity, every passing second dragging on like a physical weight against her chest.

Two grueling hours later, the bodyguard returned. "He's been moved to the private suite."
