Nathalie stared at him. With the stark white bandages covering his eyes and his face pale and gaunt, that faint smirk still managed to make him look devastatingly handsome. She quickly averted her gaze, looking down to explore the text-to-speech app's other features.
The room settled into a comfortable quiet, punctuated only by the soft, rapid tapping of her fingers against the glass screen.
A short while later, Aaron returned to the suite, his expression dead serious as he delivered his report. Nathalie put her phone down and listened intently.
"We've swept the perimeter. No suspicious individuals in the area," Aaron stated. "We also looked into the bodies found in the jungle near the town. They were unaffiliated mercenaries—just hired guns with no notable background. However, the man who saved Mrs. Adams remains unidentified."
Aaron paused, a flicker of confusion crossing his face. "Based on the intel, he arrived with that mercenary squad, but his actions completely contradicted theirs. Right now, I can't pinpoint who he's actually working for."
"Understood." Lance absorbed the information, his tone even. "Keep the security perimeter tight. Make sure the area stays completely clear."
"Yes, sir," Aaron nodded. "Also, corporate operations are running according to schedule. Things are stable. Over at Lumina Grand, the old Mrs. Adams and Jasper are doing fine. You and Mrs. Adams don't need to worry about things back home."
As he said this, Aaron offered Nathalie a respectful glance. Nathalie smiled softly and gave him a polite nod.
"Nathalie," Lance suddenly called out, turning his face in her direction.
A moment later, the robotic voice chimed in. "What is it?"
The total lack of emotion in the synthetic voice made Lance frown. He hated how impersonal it sounded. Aaron, on the other hand, looked incredibly surprised that she had already found a workaround to communicate so efficiently.
"Pack up your things and bring them in here," Lance said smoothly. "We'll share this suite."
Nathalie's fingers flew across the screen. *Tap-tap-tap.*
Nathalie stared at him in disbelief.
The way he said it... he sounded so pathetic. Her typing came to a dead halt. The room plunged into stunned silence.
Aaron watched the exchange, utterly internally reeling. Was the ruthless Lance Adams actually playing the pity card? Was he hallucinating? Aaron forced his face into a mask of stoic professionalism, desperately trying to look like a serious executive assistant.
After a long pause, Nathalie resumed typing. The robotic voice echoed in the quiet suite: "I will hire a male nurse for you. I'm still recovering myself. I can't take care of you."
Without waiting for him to argue, she stood up and walked straight out of the room, clearly done with his nagging.
Aaron watched her go, coughing awkwardly into his fist. "Ahem... Sir, she left."
